Reflection On Special Education Litigation And Law

Throughout this course I have learned so much about Special Education Litigation and Law. Some key points that stood out to me were; discipline issues, how decisions can vary, difference between due process and dispute resolution, types of behaviors, different supplemental services; health and medical, adequate progress, confidentiality, placement alternatives, and the history of special education. I have to say I had more than one “Aha!” moment during this course but the one that jumped out at me was how to identify the importance of evaluation of students and their developments in order to determine whether they are special or general education students. Being able to complete two collaborative learning community assignments helped and taught me how to work together as a group and identify the topics at hand. Being able to communicate with my peers and getting their responses on the topics helped me to understand the material even better.

in special education would be to learn about the different types of disabilities and behaviors among my students such as, the bully, the angel, bossy, angry, mental retardation, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, depression, drug abuse, anxiety disorders, autism, etc. First, knowing what the disability is that the student has will better help me as an educator educate them and help them to be the best that they can be. We as educators need to understand why a student acts the way they do and find ways that we can help them so that they can learn and progress at a steady pace. Some techniques that I can use would be de-escalate the cycle of disruption, understand the increase in emotional and behavioral disturbances, identify the cause of the student’s behavior, embrace special needs students, and set high expectations for inclusive classrooms. Seek resources to help with any issues I may need extra help
