Nothing For Pain
“No trait is more justified than revenge in the right time and place” (Kahane). Is it really? Will you heal yourself by hurting another one? When there was no more pain to make them feel will you feel satisfied, are you going to smile like a cheshire cat? Feel yourself, feel and understand what you want to do. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, revenge’s meaning is “harm done to someone as a punishment for harm that they have done to someone else” (“Revenge” --Cambridge Dictionary). If there is punishment for punishment, there is only one result as Mahatma Ghandi said “an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” (Ghandi). The only consequence would be the destruction. After considering the possible results

Revenge is not justified. While I was doing my research about the revenge the most catchy question was “is revenge ever justified?”. In the website called debate.org, as an answer to the question “Is revenge justified?” 53% of the people said “no it is not justified” and the other 47% stand against them and said “yes revenge is justified” (“Is Revenge Justified?”). Revenge, as a desire, can be misleading. It has a very special characteristic to control people in a way. The reason why revenge’s justification differs from person to person is this controlled time zones. The person who is burning with the desire of taking revenge, loses his/her ability to think and justifies the revenge in a way in his/her mind. In our cruel world, to decide to take revenge and give punishment can be considered as a usual decision. Maybe one of the reasons why 47% of the contributors said “yes” to the question “is revenge justified” is because they have lived through an agonizing event and maybe they justified the revenge on their own mind while they were thinking and interpreting about their poor experience and how painful was it. This way of thinking, which justifies and states revenge’s necessity, also can be seen in the songs, poems, and this kind of social communication tools. For example in the song called “Better Than Revenge” from Taylor Swift, she mentions about a girl who stole her boyfriend and how bad she is going to take revenge. In the song while Taylor Swift was describing her feelings, she used the words “she had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum. She underestimated just who she was stealing from” (Taylor Swift Lyrics). The blind time period after the fresh pain, pushed her to the extreme desire to take revenge. In this period, with the desire of taking revenge she might take action and hurt the person against her but what will she gain? Nothing but a temporary satisfaction. If you take your revenge and hurt the person against you what will be the

We are all brothers and sisters. What I have learned from my experiences is that revenge is not good. For example, in the short story,”Ambush” after Roger squirts Joey Bacon with water, Joey Bacon throws a rock at Roger causing him to get “Eighteen stitches and a mild concussion”(Woodward 1). The utilitarian purpose of punishment is not revenge, but rather what creates the most happiness for society as a whole. Those who seek revenge seek a “savage justice (Document D).” When people go out and try to get revenge for the wrong first inflicted on him or her, they overreact and often inflict more sin and hurt on the person than the person originally did. Document D continues to say that this will occur, and that people who are wise will ignore the past, and “know they have enough to do in the present.” Francis Bacon’s ideas are valid points, as looking back on the past prevents the future. The Bible builds on this idea by saying that every single person should “Love [their] enemies, do good to those who hate [them], bless those who curse [them], pray for those who mistreat [them] (Document A),” and by doing so, they are setting an example and perhaps even changing their “enemies” ways.…

In an article titled “The Psychology of Revenge” a study was done by phycologists Kevin M. Carlsmith, Timothy D. Wilson, and Daniel T. Gilbert to show the effects revenge truthfully have on people. “People tend to believe that retribution of some kind effectively releases the tension and anger someone feels toward the transgressor and his action, and that payback helps to assuage negative emotions, supplanting them with positive ones”(Streep). It is most common for people to believe that revenge helps a person move on, however this is not what the psychologists found: “It wasn’t just that punishing the transgressor didn’t provide a release but, in fact, made participants focus on and ruminate about both the transgressor and the transgression more” (Streep). According to their study revenge does not help someone move forward it actually keeps them stuck in the…
