“No trait is more justified than revenge in the right time and place” (Kahane). Is it really? Will you heal yourself by hurting another one? When there was no more pain to make them feel will you feel satisfied, are you going to smile like a cheshire cat? Feel yourself, feel and understand what you want to do. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, revenge’s meaning is “harm done to someone as a punishment for harm that they have done to someone else” (“Revenge” --Cambridge Dictionary). If there is punishment for punishment, there is only one result as Mahatma Ghandi said “an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” (Ghandi). Revenge is not justified. While I was doing my research about the revenge the most catchy question was “is revenge ever justified?”. In the website called debate.org, as an answer to the question “Is revenge justified?” 53% of the people said “no it is not justified” and the other 47% stand against them and said “yes revenge is justified” (“Is Revenge Justified?”). Revenge, as a desire, can be misleading. It has a very special characteristic to control people in a way. The reason why revenge’s justification differs from person to person is this controlled time zones. The person who is burning with the desire of taking revenge, loses his/her ability to think and justifies the revenge in a way in his/her mind. In our cruel world, to decide to take revenge and give punishment can be considered as a usual decision. Maybe one of the reasons why 47% of the contributors said “yes” to the question “is revenge justified” is because they have lived through an agonizing event and maybe they justified the revenge on their own mind while they were thinking and interpreting about their poor experience and how painful was it. This way of thinking, which justifies and states revenge’s necessity, also can be seen in the songs, poems, and this kind of social communication tools. For example in the song called “Better Than Revenge” from Taylor Swift, she mentions about a girl who stole her boyfriend and how bad she is going to take revenge. In the song while Taylor Swift was describing her feelings, she used the words “she had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum. She underestimated just who she was stealing from” (Taylor Swift Lyrics). The blind time period after the fresh pain, pushed her to the extreme desire to take revenge. In this period, with the desire of taking revenge she might take action and hurt the person against her but what will she gain? Nothing but a temporary satisfaction.
