Persuasive Speech On Foreign Language

Many of you probably can speak more than one language or had taken foreign language class before, knowing another language has many benefits and can bring you many opportunities. The purpose of my speech is to persuade and encourage you all to learn a second language. I think I am qualified to speak about this topic because I do speak more than one language. Being able to speak fluently in Chinese has helped me a lot at work. I’m currently working in Kate Spade and selling handbags (kind expensive or decent brand). I had met a lot customers from China, so I always used my advantage/ skill to communicate and help them. I will start by talking about how it affect your performance in school and then reasons that make you more intelligent. Second language is a great skill for young kids to develop and should be taught to children as early as possible. According to the article “Foreign Languages An Essential Core Experience, (2014) Doctor Peckham stated; the College Entrance Examination Board reported that students who study 4 or more years of foreign language scored higher on the verbal section of the SAT than those who had studied 4 or more years in any other subject area. Also, their mathematics score for individuals was identical to the average score of those who had studied 4 years of mathematics. He also talked about that learning another language increases students’ abilities in reading, writing, and mathematics. For those children who study two languages at an early age, they are more flexible and creative and they reach higher levels of cognitive development than their peers who only speak one language. ======Knowing a second languages can be more intelligence. According to the article from The New York Times (March 17, 2012) “Why Bilinguals are Smarter” author Harriet Russell, said scientist found that second language effect on your brain and improve cognitive skills. Then I would like to discuss about relationship of a second language and your brain health in later age. Being able to speak more than one language may help you develop a healthier brain. According to an article from The Washington Post (June 9th 2014) “A second language may help sustain the brain” Author: Doyle, Kathryn said that previous study shown_even if you 've learned the second language as an adult. , those people showing symptoms of dementia four to five years later than people who speak only one language. Studies also shows learning another language does predict brain health in old age and improves certain mental functions because you have to control the two languages you know, While you communicate in one language, you 've got to manage and control the other language." Also According to why everyone should learn a second language(march 21, 2015) by Kayla Mattew, said that being bilingual can improves your hearing by force you brain to pay more attention to the surrounding around you and helps improve memory and eliminate some bias and making better decision.
