When we think of controversial leaders, Adolf Hitler is the first name to pop up in people’s minds. Although most of those people don’t realize it, Hitler got most of his military techniques and ideas from another man in history. Napoleon Bonaparte was the mastermind behind all of the military tactics that have been used for generations before Hitler, and they are still used today. There are plenty of differences in the two leaders and the way that they lead, but most of the similarities are too obvious to pass up. Bonaparte and Hitler were two leaders of different countries, with different political views, who tried to conquer Europe, but were defeated by their enemies in an almost identical way. Bonaparte’s goal was to take full control of all the countries in Europe. Although ruthless in the way of war and many lives were lost, Bonaparte did not make it his main goal to wipe out an entire human race. Hitler, using almost identical military and leadership tactics in war, would be in denial about making some of the same mistakes Bonaparte did. This denial caused Hitler and his followers to lose critical battles. Hitler’s walkway to power would end in the same fashion as the man he based his war actions of off. Bonaparte and Hitler were both defeated by armies they called their enemies, however, their fatal ends would be completely different. Before being caught by counter-revolutionary forces, Bonaparte fled France in an attempt to escape punishment. Not taking long for him to get caught, Bonaparte was sentenced to a fate much worse than death. Bonaparte was exiled to a remote island to spend out the rest of his days alone. Hitler would not try to have the same bravery as Bonaparte by running away from allied armies. As his enemies were closing in, Hitler and his wife would kill himself before being caught. Even with using the same tactics, both men found themselves in very different endings after losing their

The Führer, on the other hand, had a more nebulous relationship with Nietzsche’s writings. While Hitler appropriated Nietzsche’s ideas into his ideology, he never actually read his works personally. There were, however, stories and rumors spread throughout Germany regarding the two. Viennese actress Rosa Albach-Petty, for example, reportedly heard a story from a friend of a young workman named Adolf Hitler who asked to borrow Thus Spoke Zarathustra and another book by Nietzsche, saying, “‘almost solemnly,’” “‘I promise you ma’am, that I will cherish the books like life itself.’”…
