Whilst this was good for discovering the differences in expenditure between the countries there were no studies that actually took the expenditure over a period time for one particular country (Ang, 2010). Australia, like other countries, was experiencing the expanding stresses of the ageing population on the health care funding (Ang, 2010). Ang (2010) study found that there were underlying causes that were responsible for the constant growth in the Australian health care expenditure. Firstly, the results suggested that income had an impact on health care expenditure causing a rise in expenditure as income increased. Secondly, there was a significant role of the age, where the health care in unevenly distributed, in explaining the growth of the health care expenditure. This indicated that there would be an increase in health care expenditure when there was an increase in the number of dependants. Thirdly, an increase in the concentration of the heath care sector employment was positively associated with an increase in health care expenditure. Finally, the public health care spending had an impact on the total health care expenditure causing it to rise.
