Haroun And The Sea Of Stories Analysis

The word love has been overused in this society and has lost a lot of its meaning. People use the word love to describe just a feeling of butterflies that they have toward someone or something. However, the true meaning of love is so much more than this. When you love someone you do not just love their looks or the feeling you get in your stomach, but you love every little thing about them. You love them even through the difficult times. This is true love. This type of love is more than an affection, it is a power of its own; a power so strong that it is able to overcome all things. Love is so powerful that it transcends all beliefs of what beauty is. True love is NOT just loving how the person looks, or how pretty they are, it goes way deeper than this. True love is when you love everything about the person. If you truly love someone, you will not stop loving them if their appearance changes or if the definition of beauty in this society says that they are not beautiful. You will love them no matter what. Rushdie uses Bolo and Batcheat to show this. Rushdie tells us that Batcheat is not considered the most beautiful Gup ever. This does not stop Bolo from loving her. Rushdie tells us that Batcheat, “torments our ears with her songs! And as for her nose, her teeth…” (Rushdie 181). Rushdie tells us that Batcheat is really ugly to the rest of the Gups, but to Bolo, she is an angel. He sees her as so much more than her appearance due to his strong love for her. He loves her so much that he is willing to go, “To war, to war! For Batcheat, only Batcheat!” (Rushdie 105). Bolo is willing to do anything to get Batcheat back because he loves everything about her.
