Boone Newell “Facility management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology.”(What is Facility Management) It is a key part in the ability of the organization or company to succeed, with poor management of facilities makes it that much more difficult to succeed. Being a facility manger in sport industry demands involves being an effective leader and manager. You will encounter a plethora of challenging decisions that affect the organization, and customers while also having to meet the standards that your employees and customers expect. The more stressed you become your body starts losing the ability to produce the hormone oxytocin, oxytocin helps with bonding to others; “The absence of Oxytocin, on the other hand, enables us to feel isolated, which in turn initiates a chronic threat response enabling a feeling of “us versus them” (Mitchell, 2006).”(Maloy) This happening causes a lot of facility mangers to choose an authoritarian leadership style, which in the long run is makes employees feel micromanaged, unappreciated, and makes for a non-enjoyable work environment. In return of this authoritarian style you can expect even higher amounts of turnover of the already high turnover rate. One of the first steps of becoming an effective manager is finding ways to stay calm and relaxed during the day. Now this can be hard with a heavy work load and not a lot of down time, but it is key to find time in your day to fit in a work out, hydrating, and good nutrition. The nice thing about working in sport facility’s, is there is more than likely a gym in your building which is convenient. Doing this will help keep your Oxytocin levels normal and in return lower your turnover rates and give your employees motivation, and give them the tools to
