It should be discussed with the drivers that it is their safety as well as other drivers. Elderly drivers should know that some of their medical conditions may be hazardous if they are choosing to drive. For example, Alzheimer’s can impair their memory and judgment and cause them to forget where they were going. Another example, diabetes can increase the risk of falling into a coma while driving. Granted that, not all elderly drivers do not have medical conditions that could cause concern about their driving abilities; they still should be retest since medical conditions have the ability to change quickly.…
I think people should be able to drive at whatever age they feel like they can safely drive. I think the minimum age should be thirteen, and as long as you’re a teenager, driving tests should be harder. Also, instead of just passing, everyone has to get 100%. As long as we know that teens will be safe, they can drive. If they won’t be safe and won’t drive carefully and responsibly, then they shouldn’t be able to drive.…
We think, how could someone be that irresponsible? These drivers are usually over the age of 21, but if the legal drinking age was lowered to 18, the causes of these accidents would be on the shoulders of teenagers, and if they were still in high school, on the shoulders of their parents. This also puts the roadways at higher risk of traffic accidents and puts more pressure on younger drivers.…
There has been a lot of back and forth of to whether the younger and older generations should have a vehicle. But we are here to try and express our point of view as to why the younger and older generations should have a vehicular transportation. So let's drive in and discuss the benefits of owning a car at younger and older ages. For starters a benefit of owning a car at a younger age is that it teaches how to think about being somewhere on time and responsebility.…
This proves that having the minimum drinking age to 21 does not mean the traffic accidents will decrease. There is another debate that argues that once you turn 18 you are allowed to get married, be prosecuted as an adult, sign binding contracts, purchase a house, voting, serve on a jury, and even join the military and die for your country, and pretty much by all intent and purposes be able to do everything an adult does except drink alcohol. This kind of mentality makes absolutely no sense. The law is basically saying that it trust an 18 year old to do all of this things, but not drink alcohol. The fact that almost every state didn’t immediately lower their minimum alcohol age when the law was pass by Ronald Reagan proves that most people where oppose to it, and they only didn’t because they would have been penalize by a 10 percent reduction in their federal highway money if they didn’t…
In 1984, Ronald Reagan signed the Uniform Drinking Age Act that required all states to adopt twenty-one as the legal drinking age within five years. Since then, the drinking age has been debated and questioned by many different groups all across the country. Many people have their own opinion on whether the age should be raised, lowered, or remain unchanged; but each group of supporters agree that the age minimum provides safety to citizens. While the current law has done this, there is still more that can be done. The age of twenty-one is not the ideal age for allowing alcohol consumption and it needs to be reevaluated.…
For most Americans, 16th birthdays are synonymous with getting a driver’s license. It is a monumental day for most teens, however many believe that teens are too careless to drive. While teens may seem more reckless and irresponsible, they only account for about 12 percent of all fatal crashes per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The minimum driving age should not be raised because fatal crashes involving teens are steadily decreasing due to tougher restricted license laws and teens can receive valuable experience at a younger age.…
As driving can be dangerous, it can kill and injure many people throughout the United States. The S.T.A.N.D.U.P Act will require every state in America to make a Graduated License System with requirements and restrictions for young drivers. In the name of the act itself, each letter stands for a part of safety that is needed to keep a strong and safe community. I believe that this act needs to be passed to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads. Afterall, around 4,000 teenagers are killed every year from car accidents.…
Mooney develops her argument by using the following statistics from the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization, in order to convince the reader to not want the age to change either. Her purpose is to show how many and why people are against this. In making this comment, Mooney’s…
In 2007, a poll was done determine what people thought about raising the driving age. This poll included 1,002 adults from December seventeenth through the nineteenth in the United States. Sixty-one percent…
One statistic stated, “The laws have saved an estimated 20,043 lives since states began implementing them in 1975, and they've decreased the number of alcohol-related youth fatalities among drivers by 63% since 1982 ("Arguments for Lowering the Legal Drinking Age Are Not Valid").” What many fail to realize is that an increase in stricter laws have helped immensely to the decrease of accidents. For example, many states outlaw the use of phones while driving. Even on television one can see the famous “click it or ticket” phrase.…
According to name of source more than 8,000 people are killed or involved in serious accidents by 15-20 year old’s on the road. This shows that 15-20-year old’s cause more accidents than more experienced mid aged drivers. If driving ages were raised there would be less teen drivers…
That a few more years of sitting back will lessen driver fatalities in younger people. They have to consider that young drivers also have to earn from their own experiences. Raising the minimum driving age to 18 just pushes the fatal crash results further, it could raise the driving mortality rate of 20 year…
At their age, the mind and body decline affecting decision making and reaction time. These qualities are crucial when it comes to driving. Although they already have a driver’s license, elderly people should be reevaluated to ensure that they are still mentally and physically equipped to navigate a vehicle. Studies have shown that by the age of fifty, the body and mind begin a major decline that is continuously occurring in the body. With ailments such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, Dementia, Arthritis, vision and hearing problems, Diabetes, and more that can all affect the elderly and add to the danger of driving.…
Does hitting 16 make you a great driver? Well I'm saying that if you more experienced than you will be a better driver than a 18 year old who had just got their licence. “Turning 16 does not instantly make someone a safer driver,” says Peter Kissinger they talk about experience being the main key of being a better driver, if they were to start learning how to drive at 14 and were on the roads by 16 they would be better than a 16 year old who just got their licence because they turn 16. ¨The second study examined crash rates in New Jersey, which has a minimum age of 17 for unsupervised driving and is the only state in the country to have a comprehensive GDL program for all new drivers up to age 21.…
