a. Crime/ pg. 195: The violation of norms written into law. I feel that crime is the main definition represented in The World’s Most Dangerous Gang. The gang MS-13 or Mara Salvatrucha was started in the 1980’s. It today is the most dangerous gang in the world. It is an international crime gang that started in Los Angeles, but has gone as far as Mexico and Central America. Their criminal activity consists of but not restricted to is drug trafficking, illegal immigration, money laundering, prostitution, kidnapping, arms and weapons trafficking, and the goes on. They are feared by many and have a lot of rivals around the world. The majority of the gangs are made up of Central Americans from El Salvador. The MS-13 has a very heavy presence

As the leaders think a certain way they teach the members of the gang to think that certain way and only that way is right. Even if the leaders of the gang would make a wrong decision it could lead to your death. When practicing this groupthink it destroys our ability to think clearly or open minded. We don’t even consider the truth about anything if it’s different from our solution. Your mind closes off to the rest of the world and you will do anything for your gang. Members stated that if you think there is anything good about a gang you are very wrong and it is all lies. Although once you are in the gang and live that lifestyle many will say they have a different mentality. They are supposed to all have the same thinking and conclusions when it comes to politics, religion, and race. Unlike these gangs we as a society should look at all angles and decide what is better for the greater good and all humanity. The way that gangs think is a more negative and not healthy for our survival. Sociologist Irving Janis (1972) used this term to refer to the collective tunnel vision that groups or gangs develop. When they start to think alike to start thinking their way is the right viewpoint. When someone suggests a different way of thinking they consider it threatening. Gangs put aside judgement and disregard risk. Groupthink can bring along much catastrophe and anguish. Even with all of these consequences gang members decide on this way of life because gangs provide love, money, comfort, power, and sense of belonging. Even when you have good people thinking in a group it can lead to bad choices. The government is trying to do away with group thinking because it can lead to bad in the world.
