Polygamy is the practice of having more than one spouse at one time and has been considered a controversial, and illicit social topic in the United States, earning attention as a subject in which different opinions are held. Polygamy has two types: polygyny, which means a man has more than one wife, and polyandry, which means a woman has more than one husband (The Oxford American Dictionary). Polygamy was legal over the world until the Roman Empire set up the rules of marriage and allowed only monogamous marriage. However, by the time America legalizes polygamy, polygamous marriages would become more popular and easier to understand, which will probably promote to the whole world the idea of polygamy. Many people might think that racism and segregation by national origin have vanished from the world. However, sadly, they have not (Chou). Nonetheless, by accepting polygamy and making it legal, (which will help spreading it), people from different ethnicities might have a wife or a husband in common, and therefore, it would decrease racism in the society. For example, a man could have multiple spouses from different countries, or different races at the same time. While they are living together by their choice and not because of lack, they would live as conventionally as the sun rises-eat together, watch TV together, and even discuss some problems together as one family (Kody). In any event, the polygamist community said they are tired of living in secret and want to explain polygamous marriage to society as the way they say it should be understood ("Modern Polygamy"). In this paper, the explanation of polygamous marriage is not in order to encourage people to do it or to switch their marriage type to polygamous, but it only to make people know and understand that there are different ways of marriage that they can do. And it is their rights.
