Through the ENC 1143 Introduction to Writing and Narrative course, I hope to gain knowledge in numerous writing fundamentals, focusing on strong writing skills and elements of narrative. With my strong work ethic, willingness to help others, and ability to complete all work putting in my best effort, I believe I am a great candidate for the class. I have always maintained a near perfect attendance record throughout all my years of schooling and college thus far. I have several peers that can attest to my strong work ethic, stating that I never stop trying until I get to my absolute best. With a passion for writing, I will use the skills I learn in class to excel in essays and projects outside of the class. I know that ENC 1143 is more focused on reading a number of novels and being able to comprehend and ask questions about them, but I am not positive what kind of writing is expected in the class. I do know, however, that students come out of the class being able to understand higher level text, and are able to write at a very high level. Having recently taken ENC 1101, I will be ready for the course load and will have writing skills fresh in my mind. I believe that the skills and assets I learn in ENC 1143 will be used in any reading and writing I do for years to come. I have always …show more content…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

It has been nine years since I have attended college and eleven since I have taken an English course. The first English Composition class I took in 2004, was very dry, and the expectations from what I remember were extremely low. We read excerpts, wrote reflection papers, and that pretty much sums it up. When I reviewed the classes needed for my current degree of interests, I immediately convinced myself English Composition would be the easiest way for me to ease myself back into college. My expectations were low only because of what I experienced before, and I felt this was the place to start in order to help bring my confidence up about returning to college.…

The different writing assignments were helpful to me using research and asking questions when I was stuck. My progression has included me writing essays, MLA format as well as discussing classmate’s papers, and becoming open to others criticisms about my work. Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
