Today’s students come from diverse backgrounds with varied experiences, beliefs and values therefore I believe educators can facilitate learning by engaging this diverse student group using technology and innovative approaches to teaching that is experiential and builds upon essential professional knowledge and develop skills. Students also vary in the way they approach thinking and problem solving. The ability to think critically and make individualized but safe clinical judgments is significant outcome in nursing. Therefore, I believed that educators should assess students’ cognitive development as well as their dispositions and abilities to think critically and make clinical decisions in order to guide students in experiential learning.…

I have a similar view compare to yours, I firmly believe that nurses or advance practice nurses do apply theories, models and principle in daily nursing practice, however, the theories, models and principles are simply gone unnoticed. There is room for improvement to enhance the awareness of theories, models and principles that are being applied, however I believe that does not represent the theory-practice gap. I appreciate your expression on how you have gained deeper understanding of the theories that you have learned, and you are planning on including more theories into future practice. I have adjusted my philosophy after the semester of learning. At beginning of the semester, I simply believe one particular theory will support my advance…

Theories give a methodical interpretation of the phenomenon in question. In a fast-changing healthcare system, the nursing practice needs a solid foundation to help deal with uncertainty among healthcare workers. Nursing theories create a foundation on which to base nursing practice. Final Level/Program Reflection I began the nursing program with very minimal nursing knowledge. Throughout the curriculum, I learned the fundamental skills of being a nurse, but my learning went further than skills. The greatest accomplishment I will take away from this program is an improved understanding of what nursing is: facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering, protection and promotion of health, and advocacy for patients, families, and communities. This idea has been discussed numerous times throughout the curriculum, and as I approach graduation, I finally appreciate the meaning of "what is nursing.…

These past few years, I have further refined my critical thinking skills when approaching nursing education and its processes while addressing the most critical issues, and increasing the number of students enrolled in a program. To bring this about, I had to prove myself, not only in my clinical acumen, but also in my verbal and written skills, team building ability and willingness to be an advocate for all students, prospective and current, as well as identifying and recruiting for nursing programs. What is more, these skills have increased my quantitative and statistical ability, skills that will prove invaluable in my doctoral research, not to mention the responsibility of educating nursing students. The students that will go forth and provide optimal care to the nation’s…

They use the latest research and evidence-based practice to provide care to their patients. Nursing theories are also incorporated into the daily routines of nursing. The articles showed the many ways philosophy influences knowledge development in nursing. As nursing continues to evolve, it challenges nurses to continue to ask questions and seek out new innovated ways to learn and implement proficient nursing care. According to Kim (1999), during the last 30 years the nursing education and development approach was based empirical methods: factual, observation and experimental practice. Theoretical Framework For Nursing Practice Unit 1 – Introduction to Theory Learning Activities 1. According to Chinn & Jacobs, there are several meanings of nursing theories as shown below (Meleis, 2007): 1.1 Theory base on structuration – according to Anthony Giddens, the social structure and its relationship with one another forms a theory when a certain action or ideas are reproduced or repeated such as culture, traditions, religion, morality, learning forms a theory or a social structure (Craib, 2011). This structure theory can be replaced or ignored if another theory is proven worthy of adoption such as conversion of religion, changes in learning tools from books to computer or changes in nursing leadership etc,. 1.2 Theory base on goals-setting…

As a future nurse educator I look forward to teaching college students. I picture myself teaching students the basics of nursing. I hope that I have a good mentor as I enter this field. I noticed this theme in my reading and feel that this would be a plus to my learning how to approach the students. I also feel that I am wise enough to realize that I am one who knows that she does not know it all, I am willing to help a student know where to find it.…
