As unexpected diseases continue to arise among patient populations, advanced practice nurses advocate for patients by relying on additional funding, resources, and additional support medically, clinical research, and federal funding. Through aggressive motivated professional commitments, and government funding, patients who face rare diseases then would no longer be…

I have been called to testify in front of a regulatory committee that is reviewing the credentialing and clinical privilege rules for Advance Nurse Practitioners. APN credentialing refers to a process whereby an advanced practice nurse is granted the authority to offer patient care especially in hospital settings after establishing that he/she has met all the established standards in relation to education, licensure, skills as well as training and is qualified to execute the task (Hamric et al., 2013). Notably, the Advance Nurse Practitioners can order, administer or dispense drugs under the delegated authority of the physician and as dictated by the agreement or protocol. However, in the state of Georgia, they have no authority to issue written…

Breakdown of the Educational Requirements of an Advanced Practice Nurse The educational path of an advance practice registered nurse (APRN) requires a great deal of time, education, training, experience, and dedication. The first step in becoming an APRN is obtaining either a two-year Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), which takes an average of two to four years of combined didactic courses and clinical hours to complete, depending on the initial educational path chosen. Those who start with an ADN will need to obtain a BSN prior to applying for an APRN program, as this is a prerequisite. Once this is completed, the nurse will need to become registered.…

The barrier remains to find preceptors and providers willing to work in underserved populations and gain valuable experience working with marginalized populations. In Bemidji Minnesota, the CNS or DNP as the preceptor for underserved populations remains a plausible focus. This will require the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) to champion the role of the CNS in credentialing bodies, DNP schools of nursing to create curriculum changes to include 75 hours of clinical service to underserved populations, offer innovative clinical sites to schools of nursing with available preceptors, and create guidelines to include 75 hours of clinical service to underserved populations to renew an APRN license for state boards of nursing.…

I really enjoyed reading your post of Advanced Practice Nursing Policies. You have mentioned some great points about “V.A was having issues lack of access to physicians and healthcare clinics in a timely manner”. I believe that this is an amazing idea and an excellent point. Some research shows that doctors say that NP should not be in the same level due to their education must not provide care independently. Therefore, NP are facing challenges because “some physician professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, believe that because physicians have longer and more rigorous training than NP’s nurse practitioners are incapable of providing quality, safe care at the same level as physicians” (American Nurses Association.,…

The role of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), in relation to administering immunizations within underserved populations, is vital. The APRN should be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the program, administering vaccinations, and informing their patients of the benefits of immunization. Perhaps a mobile clinic may be utilized and incentives may be offered for compliance. According to Bradford, Spain, Wright, and Gren, the main causes of poor immunization rates is missed opportunities by the provider and poor compliance with appointments (2015). The objectives should be to: Increase the vaccination rates of individuals within indigent populations (this may be measured by reviewing the amount of vaccinations provided…
