The Lost City of Atlantis? Was it really there or was it all a myth? There are many scientists, archaeologists, geologists and other professionals that got interested in this mystery. Therefore, they started a series of investigations and researches to find out whether it was a true story or just a fantasy. Hence there are so many theories nowadays which differ from each other. Charles Orser, curator of history at the New York State Museum in Albany, says “Pick a spot on the map, and someone has said that Atlantis was there, every place you can imagine.” Everything actually started with a series of dialogues (Timaeus and Critias) from Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher in which he introduced the story of Atlantis …show more content…
This is because as long as every nook and cranny of the Earth is not explored, we cannot deny the existence of Atlantis. We agree that it is indeed possible for Atlantis to exist because there were a plenty of plausible reasons stated and proposed by scientists and researchers for it to exist. For example, it is proved that there are occurrences of deadly disasters like floods, earthquakes, eruptions of volcanos and tsunamis which made destroying an entire island like Atlantis possible. Besides, there are lots of possible locations that may be Atlantis. To state a few, Azores, Sahara, Malta, Bimini, South America, and Antartica (sources:David Hacher Childress). Moreover, there are an abundance of scientific discoveries and evidences that might be Atlantis. From satellite photography, there are images that matches Plato’s description of Atlantis. Although the element of Poseidon, the god of Greek, in the story of Plato is obviously mythical, this might be Plato trying to make the original story more interesting. According to Plato, there was a temple of Poseidon in Atlantis. This can be true considering there is the Temple of Athena Nike, a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, built around 420BC,where the citizens worshiped the goddess in hope of a prosperous outcome in war.
