Phileas Fogg, a man that very rarely changes his schedule, takes a wager that he can successfully travel around the world in 80 days. Phileas accepted the wager from his friends at the reform club that he could travel around the world from London to London in just 80 days. It is 1870, so traveling is done mostly by boat and train. He takes his newfound French servant, Passepartout, and 20,000 pounds to embark on a journey across the world. Unknown to Phileas, he is wanted for a robbery at a bank in London and is chased by a detective named fix, which will only cause problems later.
As they begin their journey, it continues quite smoothly for the first few days, until they enter India. Passepartout become curious with the Hindu temple and walks in with his shoes on, not knowing that this was strictly forbidden by Indian Priests and British officials. They are later hauled into court and in order to free Passepartout, Phileas must pay a large sum of money. They continue through the jungles of Calcutta using a rented elephant and guide. This area wan not controlled by the government and contained tribes that world sacrifice the wives of the chief priests once the chief had passed on.
