Film Analysis Of Moonlight

Moonlight is a 2016 American coming-of-age drama. The film is based off a main character whose name is Chiron and is going through life trying to figure out what it means to be a man, a “Black” man at that. The film breaks down three stages of Chiron life, his youth, adolescences, and his early adulthood. In his early youth Chiron lived in Liberty City, Miami he struggles with living in a poor household with his mother Paula on drugs and no Father present in the home. He end up getting the nickname “Little” probably because he was a little bony fellow. A drug dealer named Juan ends up allowing Chiron to spend the night with him one night with him and his girlfriend. He had to feel some type sympathy for the little dude and showed him a glimpse …show more content…
Little is continuously getting bullied in school by a guy named Terrel, Terrel and his crew is always messing with Chiron and belittling him. One night Kevin, Chiron’s friend ends up meeting Chiron at the beach and they smoked a blunt and ends up kissing and Kevin started masturbating Chiron. After this night the next morning Terrel goes back to school and have Kevin and everyone beat up on Chiron. Chiron didn’t want to snitch to the higher ups because he felt like nothing would be solved so he took matters into his own hand and came back the next day and popped Terrel the bully in the head with a chair damn near knocking him out damaging his head, and little Chiron gets arrested for his actions. In his adult years he begins selling drugs in Miami and going by a new nickname Black. He goes and visit his mom occasionally, and ends up going back to Miami to visit Kevin his childhood friend and they end up embracing one another again after Black informs him that he hasn’t had any sexual interactions with anyone since that time on the beach when they were …show more content…
For instance when he was young he went by the name little, and just being called little everyday can influence a person’s mentality towards life. It can cause you to have little self-confidence, little work ethics, little ability to express and show love, and when a person feels little they sometimes feel inferior in the world. Sometimes people feel like they have to live up to their nickname, and when he got older he start going by Black, he had turned to the typical Black African American man in the U.S and could have possibly even developed a mentality where he was uncomfortable in his Black skin. When it comes to what makes Chiron struggle in developing a masculine identity you can choose from a couple things. The mere fact that his biological father isn’t in the house to show him how to be a man. The fact that he has a little body frame can make a guy feel weak and powerless, and the most likely reason to his masculinity issues is the fact that he likes males. In today’s world/society we hold the man to be a bread winner, head of the household, the dominant species, and for Chiron to be attracted to males and kissing and touching on dudes he could feel like he is relinquishing his guy powers. I think he succeeds in developing a masculine identity with the confrontation with his bully Terrel, how he didn’t tell the authorities, instead he faced his problems and stood up like a

Social realist messages normally concentrate on the sort of characters not for the most part found in standard movies. Social realist writings attract characters that occupy the social edges of society as far as status and force. This 'social augmentation' has typically included the representation of the regular workers at snippets of social and monetary change. Slope has noticed that this is not simply a question of speaking to the beforehand under-spoke to however that these subjects are spoken to from diverse particular social points of view. It has been contended that all in all the representation of the common laborers has moved from being makers to shoppers reflected in a move which has seen individuals from the average workers in more privatized local situations and relaxation time settings rather than as individuals from topographical groups or in working environment situations where aggregate haggling methodology are set up.…

Tim Burton incorporates the technique of lighting in another one of his films, Edward Scissorhands, to construct the distinction in the fact that Edward will always have that strange, innocent quality about him. For instance, there is high key lighting on the perfect houses in the perfect neighborhood, compared to Edward’s mansion on the hill. Enhancing the difference between Edward and everybody else. His house is dark, black, and gloomy which reflects on his personality as well. Edward doesn’t seem to speak as much as one to two words when he was getting comfortable at Peg’s house, leaving him with the peculiar aura.…

Produced in 1939 by Edgar G. Ulmer, The Light Ahead highlights a transition away from past superstitious beliefs toward Jewish Enlightenment thinking. The film is set in a small village of Glupsk, which serves to portray Jewish shtetl life as a juxtaposition to big city life. In his film, Ulmer pushes for the furtherance of Jewish Enlightenment through underlining stark contrasts in opinion between religious leaders of the village and Mendele, a book peddler and Jewish Enlightenment thinker. Mendele is a highly influential character throughout the film, altering the storyline through his asides with Fishke, a cripple, and Hodel, a blind woman, at pivotal scenes at the beginning and end of the film. Through encountering horrific events during his life, Elie Wiesel has discovered, “When a person doesn’t have gratitude, something is missing in his or her humanity”. Elie Wiesel was a survivor of the Holocaust; in May 1944, when Wiesel was only 15 years old, the Nazis deported him and his family to Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland. His mother and the youngest of his three sisters died at Auschwitz, while he and his father were later transported to another camp, Buchenwald, located in Germany. Throughout reading Night I’ve learned from the perspective of a victim himself how life-ruining the Holocaust had become. Wiesel himself stated that “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.…

Robert Frost Robert Frost, most famous for such works as “The Road Not Taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” inspired the world with his poetry. Because most of the time he was coping with the death of a loved one, a large majority of his poems contemplate the purpose of life and what comes after death, simultaneously reflecting his constant feelings of isolation and grief. Born on March 26, 1874, to William Prescott Frost Jr. and Isabelle Modie Frost, Robert Frost lived in San Francisco for the first eleven years of his life. His mother introduced him to Shakespeare and other similar literature at an early age, instilling in him an early passion for reading and learning.…

A movie versus a book the age-old debate but how much can they differ when telling a story about something as universal terrible like the Holocaust? This is what I intend to find out when comparing the movie Life is Beautiful (directed by Roberto Benigni) to the book Night (Elie Wiesel). The most notable way these two differ is in the way they are presented (book vs movie), their plot and most importantly the reason they both were created in the first place. The most glaring way these two work differ is the fact that Life is Beautiful is a movie while Night is a book; changing the way they are viewed.…

In the video, Candles in the Sun, mentions about babies being on crack. The drug epidemic that has impacted our country has taken a toll on babies either being born with a drug addiction or dying because of drug addiction. I believe babies being born into this society with a drug addiction can have an impact on our culture. The drug addiction from birth can be the beginning of a not so successful life for that child, and if there is more of a drug epidemic it can have a negative effect on our country as a whole.…

For what seems like forever, I’ve had the same complaint about the state of the horror genre. One film after another follows a nearly identical premise, depicting a small group of people wandering around a dark, confined area (typically a house or forest) - haunted by a member of the supernatural community. The ghule in question varies based on the story, taking the form of ugly shadow figures, women draped in black, children, and dolls - all focused on causing chaos. That said, this is a genre that has shown little interest in evolving - evident in the recent release of films that include The Conjuring 2, The Boy, The Witch, and The Forest (for whatever reason, most horror titles love incorporating “The” in the title).…
