The Position Of Honesty Analysis

It is a way to build confidence and trust. I recently had the experience where two candidates applied for the same prestigious program. The first candidate was qualified, but was not chosen. When I had to announce the winner of the position, I had to choose between the easy way and the honest way. Being honest is a huge attribute of truth telling. Like Dance of Deception described, dishonesty and honesty can be classified into three options: telling the truth, not telling the truth, and misleading the truth. Each of the three options can be exhibited in my recent experience and are evaluated below. While preparing to tell the rejected candidate of our decision, I fully intended to say that the reason for their loss was because the other candidate had applied earlier, and the decision was made on a first come first serve basis. This would have been an outright lie. …show more content…
I could not continue because I felt it was unethical to lie. I reconsidered my words, and reconstructed my email. My next attempt was not a lie, but I still ended up writing misleading information. The letter was filled with distractions that would hopefully disguise the real message. I wanted to feel ‘guiltless’ so I knew I could not lie. In addition, I wanted to protect myself against any anger or resentment that I would have encountered for bearing the bad news. Ultimately, I understood that I was just trying to protect myself, and that was incredibly selfish. I also understood that I was wrongly assuming the actions of the other

You can make a choice to be a honest, admired person , because after you make that choice people will follow.…

In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson she discusses and breaks down the activity of lying into different kinds of lies. Ericsson goes into great detail of about 10 of them, but there are many more. Some lies are for your peace of mind and maybe still bad for both parties, and some are for the better of someone else’s feelings. Ericsson believes that even if you feel you are perfect, nobody is and still tell lies no matter big or small, we do it and at times are unaware that it is considered a lie. Individuals nowadays get to a point where they are lying and don’t know whether to believe themselves or others.…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

Molly Gaglione UCWR 110 - 012 Professor Jaffe 4 October 2017 The Use of Rhetoric as a Persuasive Device in “The Ways We Lie” In the world today, lying is something that is seemingly unavoidable. Religious leaders lie to hide illegal crimes committed within the church; athletes lie about use of performance enhancing drugs; news stations lie about the credibility of their reports; the President of the United States even lies about the number of people who attended his inauguration; more commonly, however, an average person will commit an untruth over the course of their daily lives, whether it be necessarily known to them or not. These are the kinds of lies that are explored in Stephanie Ericsson’s “The Ways We Lie.” This article dives into…

Stephanie Ericsson’s essay titled, “The Ways We Lie” breaks down the activity of lying into subcategories of the different kinds of lies we tell on a daily basis. We all lie, whether to abstain from confrontation, spare people’s feelings, conveniently forget, keep secrets, or even to justify our own words and actions. By clarifying the extent into which we all lie, Ericsson insinuates a plethora of ways in which we fib, by listing and describing each lie in its natural element.…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

you find telling the truth way more easier than it is to tell the lie or “sweet talk” your way out of it. Lies no matter how big or small are going to add up and get much more confusing in the end. When speaking out on the truth its half of most people’s instinct or in my cases it’s not, but after a while and you focus on not telling lies it becomes nearly too almost impossible to lie .Someone or something gives it away and they are left already knowing. Like for example if there was a surprise dinner for someone at work and the person you are throwing a surprise to ask what are you doing for the weekend you say I have this surprise dinner I have to go to and you were just being honest and everyone was trying to be secretive about. If you are an honest person most people will come to you about information or feedback.…

An aspect of my character that I did not perceive as a strength, until this mock interview role play, stood as my integrity. My group discussed how honesty stands critical in a job interview. It does not benefit an interviewee to deceive the interviewer, as it creates a forged image. While it does stand essential to make yourself sound like a respectable candidate, lying to better your chances of acquiring the position does not symbolize integrity. Interviewers will respect honesty over appeal.…
