Have you ever want to know the backstory of the creator of The Muppets, Sesame Street and many more? Well his life was anything but boring and dreary. His practice and hard work obviously seemed to pay off. This was only capable through his big imagination and creativity. Jim Henson is an Image of Greatness because he influenced a lot of young childrens lives and taught them friendship, good morals and fellowship. He taught this through puppets and showing young children and many future generations to come that you can let your imagination run wild. In 1955 Jim got his first independent show Sam and Friends only after one year in the buisness. “The five-minute show Sam and Friends starring Henson’s puppets would broadcast live every day of the week.”(Floss) This showincluded early versions of characters that later on would be called The Muppets. And also included early an early version of Kermit the Frog. Jane was his main collaborator during Henson’s college years. She helped him with all the puppet making and scripts. Education helped shaped Jim Henson’s Image of Greatness. Henson’s career was very sucessful. His show ended in 1961 which gave him plenty of time to work on other projects until Sesame Street aired in 1969. In 1956 Jim Henson made many apearences on many late night talk shows including; The Arthur Godfrey show, The Steve Allen show and many more. In 1957 the first ever coffee commercial that was created by Jim was aired. In 1958 Sam and Friends won a local emmy award. In 1959 Jim and Jane Nebel got married. In 1960 The Muppets made their first appearance on the Today Show and started regular appearances in 1961. Next Time Piece, Jim’s first no puppet production, started filimg in 1964 and eventually gets nominated for an Oscar. 1966 was a very sucessful year for The Muppets. Their first appearnaces for commercials were made and toys of characters such as Kermit and Rowlf were created. In 1969 the first pilot show of Sesame Street aired for the first time. It show cased characters such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and many more. Sesame Street was very sucessful and earned tons of recognition.
