Chemical Equation For Photosynthesis Essay

Superior Essays
Introduction: Photosynthesis powers ecosystems and provides the Earth’s atmosphere with oxygen. It is a reaction that requires water, carbon dioxide and energy from the sun to produce glucose and oxygen. In the process of photosynthesis water is oxidised and carbon dioxide is reduced. The process of photosynthesis consists of two parts; a light-dependent reaction and a light-independent reaction. In the light dependent reaction the energy from light moves the electrons from a photosystem into to high energy state. In the light dependent reaction carbon dioxide and a few other compounds are combined to make glucose. The chemical equation for photosynthesis is 6CO2 + 6H2O = energy from the sun → C6H12O6 + 6O2. CO2 is carbon dioxide, H2O is water, C6H12O6 is glucose, O2and is oxygen. …show more content…
In fermentation glucose, or sugar, is converted to acid, alcohol, or gasses. The chemical equation for fermentation is C6H12O6 + 2 NAD+ + 2 ADP + 2 Pi → 2 CH3COCOO− + 2 NADH + 2 ATP + 2 H2O + 2H+. The most common substrate for fermentation is sugar.

The purpose of photosynthesis lab was to calculate whether or not aquatic plants need sunlight to use carbon dioxide. My hypothesis was: The aquatic plant will need at least a little bit of sunlight to photosynthesize. If an aquatic plant doesn’t get any light it won’t use carbon dioxide to photosynthesize and eventually will die. If an aquatic plant gets ambient light it will photosynthesize. If an aquatic plant is constantly in sunlight it will photosynthesize faster than one left in ambient light.

The purpose of the fermentation lab was to test what substances affect yeast in fermentation. My hypothesis was: substances with more sugar will fermentate the yeast faster than substances with less sugar or no sugar at all. Less is produced if there is less sugar, glucose, to break down and chemically

The purpose of this lab is to examine cross sections from the leaves of C3 and C4 plants and to determine the morphological differences between them while relating those differences to their metabolism. In C3 plants the carbon dioxide is first incorporated into a 3-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place throughout the mesophyll cells. In comparison C4 plants, the CO2 is first incorporated into a 4-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place within the inner cells.…

The Effect of Citric Acid on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Jacqueline Martinez, Shayla Sanders, Yewande Ifanse, Dyamante Wigenton, Rachelle Hutchinson Biology 1441_045; TA Manish, October 14, 2014 Citric Acid originates from lemons or other fruits in which it is sour in taste. It is said that photosynthesis consumes CO2 when aerobic respiration also known as cellular respiration produces it. Also it states that whenever more carbon dioxide is produced the more acidic the water becomes. It is also said that the higher the light energy is meaning the sun, the more acidic the water will become as well.…

Fermentation, the process that follows cellular respiration, uses a series of redox reactions to produce ATP without the presence of oxygen (anaerobic respiration). This process produces significantly less ATP than aerobic cellular respiration. There are two types of fermentation-lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation. In this experiment, the main focus will be on alcoholic fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation results in the production of ethanol and carbon dioxide.…

In light dependent reactions, the products have a key role in the drive of the reactions in the Calvin Cycle. The overall product of the Calvin Cycle includes glucose. The products of the reactions are vital to photosynthesis due to the reason being that to generate chemical energy, light energy is essential. With this being done, the free energy is then stored in as glucose. The cycle uses the energy from the excited carriers to covert water and carbon dioxide into organic compounds.…

By not altering one of the plants level of sun exposure, it meant that neither of the plants had an advantage over the other by using the sun to photosynthesize. Plants in warmer climates lose extra water through photosynthesis compared to plants that may be in a shadier and much cooler area, as they are not constantly exposed to the sunlight. If one of the plants were exposed to a warmer environment with different atmospheric temperatures and heavy exposure to sunlight then the results would have been different. By having the plants positioned indoors, shaded and not exposed to the sun, gave the experiment somewhat false results. Because to test the experiment correctly, factors such as a plants exposure to the sun to perform photosynthesis is critical to consider for accurate results and plays a major role in reducing their transpiration…

Photosynthesis Pine Needle Lab Karthik Ravishankar Rock Ridge High School Background Information Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight and turn it into glucose with a byproduct of oxygen in the chloroplast. Chloroplast is located in the cell membrane of a plant cell. Inside the chloroplast, there are small disks called thylakoids which are located in the stroma of the chloroplast. Stacks of thylakoid cells are called granum. Photosynthesis consists of a Light Dependent Reaction and the Calvin Cycle.…

After 9 minutes (“more time under light source”), there were more bubbles than at the beginning. However, it was not due to the closeness of the lamp but to the amount of time under it. Also, the plant was heated up towards the end and it gave results, even though the distance between the plant and lamp was greater. Some possible mistakes that could have occurred during this experiment can include the following: Miscalculating the distance between the Elodea plant and the light source.…

My groups hypothesis was that an increase in light wattage would cause an increase in the rate of photosynthesis. Because my group increased the light wattage by a relatively small amount, the rate of photosynthesis didn’t change that much. Both trials (lower light wattage trial and higher light wattage trial), had a photosynthesizing rate of .9 after ten minutes. The photosynthesis rate of the spinach chards exposed to a high light intensity did, however, increase faster compared to the spinach chards exposed to a lower intensity of light wattage. At zero minutes, both trials started with one floating spinach.…

Abstract: For this lab my group and I wanted to measure the rate of photosynthesis. We did this lab twice, both with slightly different environments so that we could see what changing the factors did to the rate. We found the rate of photosynthesis by taking hole punched pieces of a leaf and placing them inside of a syringe with sodium bicarbonate buffer. We then pulled the plunger part of the syringe back which lets the bicarbonate solution infiltrate the air spaces in the piece of leaf. After the air spaces are completely infiltrated and the leaf discs sank to the bottom of the syringe we then placed the discs and the solution inside of that syringe into the beaker that was holding another 40 ml of bicarbonate solution.…

In the Light Independent Reaction takes place in both light and dark, this all occurs in the chloroplasts. The formula for Light Independent Reaction is 6CO2 + ATP → Glucose + 6H2O. In lab the class performed a couple of different experiments the one that is going to be observed is the effects of carbon dioxide concentration of photosynthesis. The group’s hypothesis was that the 6% sodium carbonate would give the highest reaction because the Elodea will give off more oxygen. The reason why we picked this hypothesis is because we believed that since there was a higher concentration of carbon dioxide it would be a Light Dependent Reaction.…

According to the University of Kentucky, radiant energy is used in order for plants to undergo photosynthesis. Radiant energy is then transformed into chemical energy that is used in the plant. This chemical energy is found in various compounds, but the one we see in photosynthesis is sugar. These sugars are then transported all over the plant and are then broken down. The plants use this energy for growth and fruit production.…

The process of photosynthesis is composed of two phases: light-dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle. The first stage (light-dependent reactions) occurs in the thylakoid membrane, which absorbs light energy to create NADPH and a proton gradient used to power the synthesis of ATP. The latter occurs in the stroma, and results in carbon dioxide fixation. In this experiment, only the light-dependent reactions were studied. 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol (DCPIP) was used as an artificial electron acceptor in order to determine the rate of the light reactions by observing the disappearance of its blue color in the reaction that follows: DCPIP (blue) + 2e- + 2H+ → DCPIPH2 (colorless)…
