Walmart is not good for America because they don’t treat their workers well, they offshore secondary jobs to china, they destroy other retail businesses who can 't compete with them, and they cause suppliers to lose money and possibly declare bankruptcy because of Walmart 's demand for such low prices. Walmart’s employment practices are no secret. Part of the reason why they can sell goods at such low prices is because they don’t pay their average employee well. This is described in the article titled Walmart raising Wage to at least 9$ by Hiroko Tabuchi.”The retail Giant……. said that all of its retail workers would earn at least 9$ an hour by April and 10$ an hour by next February. In the article Walmart vs. the unions, the author describes Walmart’s anti-union attitudes and their effect on employees. “The Los Angeles times reports that at the first sign of union activity Walmart managers are supposed to call a hotline, prompting a visit from a special team from Walmart headquarters.” The quote explains the extent of Walmart’s anti-union attitudes. The fact that they will go to the extremes of having their managers call a hotline at the first side of union activity and send a team to investigate means that they feel threatened by unions. This expresses Walmart’s belief that unions will confer unnecessary and expensive benefits on employees and higher wages. Walmart wants to sell and produce cheaply and they don’t want unions getting in the way for that. The article also describes the fact the Walmart moving into areas causes wages to go down so they can compete with Walmart. So Walmart doesn’t only give their employees low wages, they lower the wages of their competitor’s employees. The article also describes the fact the many Walmart employees worked overtime without overtime compensation and gov’t raids on Walmart because of their hiring of illegal immigrants. This means that they are also taking away jobs from Americans by hiring illegals. Rubber made hap been very successful in the 1990’s. Their products were in everyone’s homes. Their largest customer was Walmart. When the price of their main resource; resin went up Rubbermaid couldn’t afford to sell to Walmart at such low prices. Walmart dropped much of Rubbermaid’s products from their shelves which caused Rubbermaid to become bankrupt. Rubbermaid ended up merging with their competitor and that is how Walmart destroyed Rubbermaid.
