- She has raised Jem and Scout since their mother’s death. - Calpurnia was the one who taught Scout and Jem many things, such as how to read and how to write. - Even though Calpurnia was the Finches’ housekeeper, they treated her as if she was a part of the family, because they’ve known her for a long time. R- She is familiar with Jem and Scout’s lifestyle, and she knows how to treat them. - Calpurnia knows when they could be in trouble. She looks out for them when they are in dangerous situations. Such as: When there was a mad dog in Maycomb, Tim Johnson, and she managed the situation calmly, and her first thought was to get Jem and Scout to a safe place. - When they informed Calpurnia that Atticus had to attend an emergency meeting in relation to Tom Robinson’s case, she decided to take Scout and Jem to her church. - When Jem turned twelve, Calpurnia started referring to him as Mister Jem.

In other words, she wants Scout to behave more ladylike. - Aunt Alexandra has a stubborn and controlling personality. One can see this on various occasions. For instance, when she tells Atticus what he has to say to his children regarding their behavior. - She tries to do what she thinks is best for Jem and Scout, but she does not take into consideration that the kids considered this uncommon. An example of this would be when Aunt Alexandra wants Scout to talk to her cousin, which she has only met a few times. R- Jem and Scout have not been around Aunt Alexandra that often, so they don’t like her as much as they like Calpurnia. - Jem and Scout found it shocking when they told them that Aunt Alexandra was going to stay with them for a while. - She tries to fire Calpurnia, and even though the kids were not aware of this I can imply that they would have handled this information in a negative way. - It takes the kids some time to get used to Aunt Alexandra’s harsh disciplinary ways.
