The Four Years Of My Life-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
Dr. Seuss once said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” Trying to remember what happened to four years of my life and what those four years were filled with is tough. It’s so easy to remember the valleys and not the mountains. However, looking back on my years at Unity, I learned something incredibly valuable. Unity has taught me what it’s been trying to teach me since I walked through the door for the first time freshman year. I see how God walked beside me and that he will continue to do so for the rest of my life. God was there freshman year. I wouldn’t say he was silent, but more like quietly working. I cared more about my grades than I did making new friends or getting involved, but something …show more content…
I shouldn’t have to change myself so I could be friends with a group of people I didn’t even like anymore. I found three girls who forever changed my life. They showed me how much fun high school was and how beautiful life could be. Freshman year, I ran cross country and that was about it. Sophomore year, I ran cross country, played soccer, was in the Sound of Music, Knightsounds and Instruments of Praise, and sang in chapel for the first time. I began doing things that I loved and I found people who wanted to be with me, who wanted to invest time in me. It was beautiful. God became more of a priority and I gained a better understanding of true peace and …show more content…
Each part of my worldview is Biblically based. Acts 28:31 says, “proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.” Living in boldness, means living without fear, but with an eagerness to spread the Gospel through all that I do and say. Ephesians 6:11 tells me that when I am prepared in God, I can stand courageously. Joshua 1:9 talks about how I can be courageous because the God of the universe is on my side. Knowing that God is in control, I can embrace life’s storms. This is taken from one of my favorite songs, Oceans, which talks about how God will carry us through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Our souls will rest with God because I can’t be taken from him and he can’t be taken from me. Having the knowledge that God will never leave us, helps us believe anything is possible. This statement is found in Matthew 9:22b-24. “‘But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” This is a really profound and important statement. I think Jesus gets frustrated when we put him into a box and pick parts of the Bible that fit our lifestyle, but ignore the rest. All things are possible for the one who believes. I’m the type of person who believes that crazy things can happen, but just thinking about that Jesus says all things are possible is mind-blowing. Without Christian

A motif that haunts the months of college applications and preparation is the daunting idea of seniors entering into the "real world." An alleged, new realm of reality that discredits the validity of the last few years in high school, not to mention the three before that and all the experiences previously. This concept coincides seamlessly with the idea that college is a beacon of newfound adulthood. Even so, each student's differing personality, aspirations, culture and tribulations falsifies the belief that adulthood is that straightforward. Thus, in order to define the moment that marked my transition into adulthood, I must first define what being an adult means to me.…

William J. Clinton once famously stated, “If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity not how it affects you.” I find this quote to be very true based on my upbringings and experiences throughout junior year of college. As I sit here writing this essay…

I was born with the name Patricia Laura but most of the time people called me Laura. For some reason, I love the name Laura because it makes me feel happy and carefree. Laura is of a Latin origin that reminds me of the laurel flower. A tiny and modest flower that blooms beautifully and represents motivation and determination. My aunt was the one who gave me the name Laura because she told me that once she saw me; her face blossomed and told my parents that I had to be named Laura the fact that my facial expressions showed humility and wisdom.…

My transition from childhood to adulthood mentally started when I was just ten years old. It slowly matured and ended in my teen years. This is when my family bought our new house. From the new house came friends and family that would come every American and Chinese holiday. It was custom in our family to show the utmost respect to our guest and so my parents would bring the parents out all night and enjoy the Chicago nightlife.…

I’ve heard it said that you can’t have a great story without a great beginning. Apparently, it’s impossible to have a decent story marked by ordinary things. Whoever said that has obviously never lived life, because all the best stories of my life have started with the terrifyingly mundane. This particular one begins with a skateboard. It’s funny isn’t it; how the turning points in our lives can be marked by something so mundane.…

"The year is two-thousand-six" That one simple sentence brings me back to my first grade class when I was only seven years old, where we said the date aloud every single day. The year 2006 sits as a blemish in my life however, as a memory that will not go away no matter how hard I try to forget it. The year marked many firsts for me, it was the year I board my first airplane, the year I lost my first tooth, and unfortunately, the all-too early loss of my childhood innocence. For my entire childhood I lived with my mother in a very nice neighborhood that was going through a transitional phrase- people of lower economic measures were gradually moving in, and my mother and I were just a couple of those people.…

Children are a marvelous thing, watching them grow and develop into the adults of tomorrow; wanting more and more freedom is what defines this period of their life. The ages of 11-18 “begins with biology and ends with society” (pg. 361 Berger, 2014). For this interview; I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing my step son; Byron who is 16 going on 26. If you let Byron tell the story, he can do no wrong, with his grades, his room, the amount of time he spends in front of the television with that PlayStation, and his new found girlfriend.…

The Life of Me From all my years of experience I have learned that the beginning of a novel is, more often than not, similar to how you would great a stranger. You start out with your name, which is often forgotten within the first few minutes of introduction, and on rare occasions, when their face appears trustworthy enough, you might tell them your story. However, I have no name, and I am no one, I am simply me, and so there is no need for you to worry about trying to remember what I am called. I tried names once before, but they all too quickly evaporated like smoke with each decade that blew by.…
