As we take a look on today’s generation, most of the children’s after school programs is to play, and play various types of video games, one of them are Role Playing Games or commonly known as RPGs. Many studies says that RPG is one of the most addictive type of game. According to Johansen (2008) “Although the modern tabletop role playing game (RPG) movement began in 1974 when TSR published the first commercial RPG Dungeons and Dragons, it has been only less around ten years since RPGs have begun to be taken seriously by the academic community”. But RPGs has its fair share of advantage to the students, but still it is the negativity effect that is dominant. Many students in today’s generation are being irresponsible and doesn’t care of what will be the effect of too much playing of video games. They do not mind of what could be the damage will happen to their studies because they are immature and dependent to the people that surrounds them. A proper discipline and control could unleash the true purpose and the good effect of RPGs to an individual. The good effects of playing RPGs could be useful for the studies of a student. Just like other educational games, Role Playing Games has its own way on making the students improve in different aspects of learning. It is still the guardian that should control the student, I recommend for every guardian to make a time to monitor their children especially for those students who plays RPGs because at their young age they need a guidance and assistance to be responsible and mature. Even though playing video games has a good effect it doesn’t mean that it should be set aside and should not be worried for. The negative effect is depending on the person who are playing the game, no matter how educational the game is, it’s still in the players hand weather it will affect him/her negatively of positively.
