The tournaments of karate are designed to help children focus on other more important duties. They support helping children overcome social anxiety, stage fright, and glossophobia, which is the fear of public speaking or performing in public. Karate tests help these anxieties in the same way that the tournaments do: it puts children on the spot and forces them to do their best or they will not be rewarded in the end. Of course, though this does sound terribly mean, it is true. More kids need to be put under pressure in order to avoid the plague that is anxiety. In saying this, I realize children are not put under a large amount of pressure growing up. Schools have stopped caring about the importance of teaching children how to present in front of class. Karate builds character, character is built by being pushed over the limit, and, in turn, being pushed over the limit creates the ability to control
