Texting and Driving has become increasingly more of an issue in today’s society. Both teens and adults have been developing this dangerous habit while driving their cars. It distracts the driver from the road and increases the probability of a car accident. To prevent this, laws have been put into place which carry heavy penalties if caught, but even with this people are still choosing to put their life at risk and potentially others.

One of the most dangerous and obvious reasons to not text and drive is how it takes away your attention to the road. When a driver is looking at their phone they are not paying enough attention to the other cars around them. According to the article DWI: Driving While Intoxicated it states, “Crash risk is four times higher when a driver uses a cellphone, whether or not its hands free.”(DWI: Driving While Intoxicated). Even though though the potential for a accident is much greater when people choose to text and drive they still continue to do it.
