Qualities Of Mrs. Cookie Bodie As A Level 3 Teacher

Improved Essays
Since my sophomore year in high school, I 've been able to be in a kindergarten classroom under the guidance of the same teacher, Mrs. Cookie Bodie. Through this experience I 've been able to watch her attitude be positive towards herself, those around her, and the subject matter she was teaching. She portrayed the characteristics of a Level 3 teacher, and I am very thankful for the time I was able to learn from her. The most outstanding thing I learned from her was classroom management: to never back down while under fire, and always remember what your goal is for the class. The difference she has made in my life through teaching is one I will never forget. One of the important qualities of an effective teacher is their attitude. If …show more content…
Bodie would classify as a Level 3 teacher. According to the book Those Who Can, Teach, a Level 3 teacher is one that has a classroom “characterized by a wide variety of instructional approaches” (Ryan et al., 2014). She teaches with a variety of manipulatives, worksheets, and group sizes. These different instructional approaches benefit her students because not all students thrive in the same teaching methods. I see her put some kids in small groups to learn a topic, and other kids she teachers individually to ensure they have understood the material. She also instills in her students a desire to learn, and the ability to learn in their own creative ways. To begin class each morning, she has their journals at their desks open for them to work on until everyone is there. An example of what the journal entry would be is, “Draw a picture of items that you use with triangles.” The students could then come up with things they use that have triangles: ice cream cones, houses, and trees are examples of things the students came up with themselves. They were able to relate the object they were learning with a solid memory or experience they have had …show more content…
Bodie 's classroom I 've been able to learn a lot about how to be an effective teacher. I need to have a positive attitude towards myself so I will be able to have a positive attitude towards others and relate to what my students are feeling. Training to be a teacher will not automatically make me a Level 3 teacher, but from watching the methods Mrs. Bodie uses, I hope to one day achieve that level of excellence. And although I feel as if I would do well with classroom management, I know there is still plenty more to learn. The chance I 've been given to work with such an effective educator has encouraged me to aspire towards that goal as well. I am thankful and blessed to be given this opportunity to glean all the knowledge I can from

Mrs. Gaither also did great job in teaching with all the different learning styles so that she could reach each student’s preference. After each assignment, Mrs. Gaither went around to each individual student and went over their answers with the student. Based on what answers they got wrong is where she would focus more attention. I found this style of teacher very helpful to each student because it wasn’t just as a whole.…

In the article, “A New Deal for Teachers,“ by Mathew Miller, he argues that low income families with students from fourth grade through eighth grade show significantly lower tests scores compared to students from high income areas. This problem Miller addresses, is that there are not enough good teachers in poor cities, and not enough teachers willing to continue their jobs as teachers. Another argument Miller indicates is that having a good quality teacher makes a huge difference in the child’s education and overall development. Miller says that teachers, who do not care about their students and their performance, result in students doing poorly in class academics. One way to resolve these problems is to raise the wages for the teachers, but base salary upon performance and educational background.…
