The movie “Stand by Me” released in the year of 1986, focused on four children most likely the age of twelve. These four children, named Gordie, Vern, Chris, and Teddy, discovered that a stranger in their small town had been killed accidently decide to go explore their town to discover the body. During their journey, they learn more about one another and their very different home lives. The differences in development between the characters is quite apparent. After observing the behaviors of these four children, one can tell they either act their age or they act much older than their age. Gordie seeks an acceptance from his parents.However, he goes unseen. The only time his parents have any kind of social interactions with Gordie is when Gordie asks a question; otherwise, there is no means of conversation within the Lachance household. As one can connect, younger children require an acceptance from their parents. They want to tell their parents about their day and talk about the future with them. The children seemed so emerged in the aspect of finding the dead body that they did not consider the consequences that they can suffer once discovering it. Death, or a near-death experience, or in this case, finding a dead body can have play a major role in the development of children. During the age of twelve, children are fully aware of death. They realize that it is irreversible, that all living things die, and they too will die some day. Death is a concept that most refuse to talk about, however, it is helpful in the developing mind of a child. It is easier for a child to cope with death if it is talked about, if they have questions they should be answered. Many times a child coping with a death of a loved one might feel guilty or even responsible for it, however, it is important to reassure the child and provide the child with care and love. In the movie, Gordie is a prime example in neglection after a family member’s death; he lost his older brother, and instead of being supportive and caring for him, his parents fail to acknowledge the pain and damaging developmental effects that Gordie went
