Capital Punishment Should Be Abolished

Capital punishment should be abolished because it is too expensive to retain, it is revenge not justice, and it 's possible for innocent people to be executed. The execution of human life should not be something we advocate here in the United States, it’s sad that as a nation we preach peace while still executing our citizens. The millions of dollars being wasted on executions could be spent improving our criminal justice system, and in doing so, improve our country. Not only is the death penalty a waste of our hard earned tax dollars, but it also puts innocent lives at risk. Mistreated or mishandled evidence can easily put an innocent life on death row. The death penalty advocates revenge and takes the meaning of justice away, and if we were …show more content…
Since the reestablishment of the death penalty in 1977, there have been multiple documented cases of falsely accused people ending up on death row for crimes they did not commit. The majority of these people were convicted due to improperly handled evidence by either attorneys, police, or forensic specialists. According to Lester, 1993 an investigation into the then current Chief Serologist of San Antonio, Texas, revealed over 133 cases of murder and rape in which the evidence was falsely or incorrectly tested, resulting in convictions of innocent people. One of these cases in particular saw an innocent man placed on death row for three years, for a murder he did not commit, and had absolutely nothing to do with. These wrongfully imprisoned people will never get the years of their life back that were stolen by the faulty justice system. Further, the fact that there have been without a doubt many innocent people put to death in our country due to these faults is horrifying (n.p.). We have many unfortunate flaws in our justice system which can lead to the mistreatment and possible execution of valued human life. Human error should never be the cause of someone 's life being taken. The only real way to keep these tragic incidents from happening, would be to abolish the death penalty

In a world of cold blooded law enforcers who serve no justice when it comes to underage teens who get charged as an adult for a crime and put on death row, death row is a prison block or section for prisoners who will be sentenced to stay in prison till death. Without parole or sometimes even trial, and just from reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson explaining how the courts and the justice system is illicit. Mr. Stevenson talks about the circumstance that have led to the teens that have been slandered throughout their lives. The teens reached out to him in letters throughout their time in prison. I can say from reading the book Stevenson Steps in as a father figure-role model for these teens helping them fight their cases from unlawful lawyers,…

As John Morrison exclaimed,“It should be clear that the death penalty does just the opposite of promoting decency and respect for life... It can never be applied fairly.” Since the mid nineteenth century, inmates on death row have been murdered by a plethora of gruesome methods, such as venomous lethal injections, gas chambers, and electrocution. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, there have been 1,413 executions in the United States from 1976 to the present. Although the number of death penalty verdicts are decreasing, flaws in the American judicial system have caused an increase in the amount of punishing wrongfully accused suspects to the death penalty.…

The death penalty shouldn’t be allowed in the United States because it costs too much to execute them rather than putting them in prison. The amount of times they have executed the wrong person makes a big error in our system. It costs too much to execute people instead of putting them in prison. Putting someone on death row costs more than $1 million because they have to hire expensive lawyers to deal with their cases since they’re so complicated. If they hired a cheap lawyer they would end up on death row a majority of the cases.…

Although the Death Penalty is cost effective and could save the lives of innocents, the Death Penalty actually goes against the First Amendment, in many instances has executed the wrong person, and goes against many religious and moral views; and additionally is becoming a problem in our own state as the penalty is being rushed in order to make sure the necessary drug does not expire. One of the most controversial arguments is the Eighth Amendment vs. Lethal Injection argument. While lethal injection is proposed as a quick, efficient, and painless way to end the life of those convicted, this is not the case. Lethal injections can be faulty, there are many reports of individuals surviving or needing a second attempt.…

I am writing this letter to convey my thoughts over the issue of the death penalty. The death penalty continues to be a matter of dispute and will be argues in the States for many years. The death penalty is currently used by 27 states and is used by the federal government for punishing federal crimes. However, in Texas, the death penalty should be banned, and instead of executing these criminals, the state of Texas should sentence them to life in prison. By abolishing death penalty, and instead of executing criminals, simply sentencing them for life in prison can help the United States save a significant amount of money.…

The reason race is an important reason for it to be abolished is because the races can only recognize differences in their own race vs other races. The second reason as to why the death penalty should be abolished is due to mental illness. People with a mental illness who are put on death row are at a disadvantage because, at the time they committed the crime they aren’t always fully cognitive.…

Capital punishment has been used for many centuries to kill murderers or anyone who has committed a heinous crime. Although this may sound like a good thing, the trial errors are catastrophic. A judge and a jury are the ones to decide if a defendant gets the death penalty or a noncapital punishment. A defendant on trial for this certain punishment, does not get most of their rights of an American citizen. Congress should reconsider capital punishment as unconstitutional because of the amount of money used (1), the racial biases (2), the methods of death (3), and the people who are not being given the freedom of cruel and unusual punishment (4).…

The first reason capital punishment should be abolished is it is barbaric, for instance, prisoners are injected with chemicals, much like an animal is when it is euthanized. When a human being is executed in the same manner as an animal it makes a statement of how society values human life. Humans deserve rehabilitation and forgiveness because all are capable of these things all should be given every opportunity to utilize these capabilities, before being put down as if that was beyond possibilities. Speaking of possibilities, the second reason the death penalty is barbaric, there are recorded cases of innocent people being executed according to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, “four percent of prisoners sentenced to…
