This view is not shared everywhere in the world, most countries restrict freedom of speech in some way; and in no place is this trend more studied that in east asian countries. From the extreme control North Korea to the more western based ideas of Japan, all shades of censorship can be observed in east asia. Content access and content distribution. Content access is who can go where and talk to who. For example cameras and recording devices were not allowed at political rallies in malaysia until the 1990s so that is a form of content access. This type of control is simply not a feasible option in a world where everyone has a camera on themselves and transferring videos or photos to a public place takes only a few seconds. An example of control of content distribution is newspapers. In malaysia printers are required to get a permit; and that permit can be suspended indefinitely without notice. To differentiate further; communication devices can be censored; printing presses that produce more than a thousand copies an hour require a permit in malaysia. Censorship is what governments use to hide the public from reality. The novel Fahrenheit 451 expresses how a person’s mindset develops by the knowledge they receive. For instance, if the government controls information that literature, media, the internet, and forms of communication give, civilians will know nothing more than what the government provides to them. Those in power limit information to the public in order to seize control over the population. Some countries that possess events which partake in the idea of censorship are North Korea, China, and America.…

In the Soviet Union, if you hope to see a country embracing Freedom of Speech it’s better that you go to the U.S. As a citizen of the Soviet Union you are kept under watch by the various departments of the governments that deal with censorship. The Soviet Union had the Goskomizdat established to censor anything that was printed such as newspapers, fiction, and poetry. The firemen in this novel are the ones who enforce censorship by burning down any houses if books are known to be present inside. The firemen burn books because of the endless amount of power and knowledge displayed in these novels, which is feared by the government. I believe that censorship is violating the freedom of speech. Censorship, the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are "offensive," happens whenever some people succeed in imposing their personal political or moral values on others. In many cases censorship has restricted newspapers, television, radio, etc. by not allowing them the right to free speech. In essence, this means that governmental censorship would primarily attempt to stop an unintentional effect of certain speech or expression on the Internet; in other words, the government would be opposing the idea of individualism in society.…

Censorship in the media has been a controversial topic ever since the founding of the United States. From the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 that restrict the rights of immigrants, under the John Adams presidency, to the Edward Snowden and NSA scandal in 2013 that concerned government surveillance of its citizens and government transparency. These controversies have caused a public backlash against media censorship of any kind but there are aspects of media censorship that protect society rather than hurt it. Instead of hiding government secrets or preventing certain political ideas from being expressed, media censorship can be used to hide criminal’s and victim’s names as well to hide sensitive and graphic images or video from the public.…

When a person has no choice but to trust what they hear, news becomes a dangerous topic, or more accurately transforms from sure fact to discrete fabrications. Once people become complacent, there is no one to question whether the information people are being fed is truthful at all. It remains true to this day that “Because media is such a large part of people’s lives today...if...information is not being given in full or truthfully, then the society is left uneducated” (“Censorship Effects on Society” 1). In countries where only one source of information is available to the public, it is almost routine that the information is biased and filled with political propaganda. In reducing the amount of sources, the people have no other opinions presented to them than the ones that the government wants them to have.…
