When I first started this class, I knew this class was going to be a challenge for me. I was very religious, in a sense, when I was little. I used to go to church every Sunday, attended Sunday school and went through confirmation, but as I became a young adult my beliefs changed. I drifted away from the church and my knowledge in the bible, Jesus, and God diminished. As I was drifting away, some bad things happened to me, which really affected my beliefs in God and Jesus. I didn’t understand how God could let bad things happen to good people. I didn’t really believe in God anymore. This class though has made me reflect on my feelings on God and has helped me to gain some knowledge on the bible.

I have always believed that wisdom is gained by growing up and learning from our elders. I never had realized how wisdom is portrayed in the bible. In the beginning of the bible, wisdom is portrayed as being there when God made the earth and then in the New Testament Wisdom is portrayed as a female. I still feel as though I don’t quite understand the context of wisdom and what the bible is saying about it. We discussed in our assignment how many of the passages of wisdom can be applied to the 21st century and I believe this is true. Many of the verses in the Book of Proverbs can be applied and provide guidance or wisdom for today’s society. IN addition to wisdom, we discussed our beliefs on how Jesus is portrayed in the four synoptic gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I agreed with all of the views, but in the end I found that Luke’s portrayal of Jesus was most appealing to me. Luke portrayed Jesus as the history of salvation. Jesus was sent by God to teach the people and then to be crucified so that all the people’s sins were forgiven. Luke also shows that Jesus was showing the people God’s plan and that God wanted all the people, Jews or Gentiles, to follow in

Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. When going up against the men of Jabesh, Saul was very wise. He tricked them into thinking they were going to surrender but instead he and his men broke into their camp, slaughtering every one of them. However, Saul ignored God and his wise council, which allowed the spiritual health of his people to deteriorate much further than before. This alienated them from God.…

Sometimes it can be difficult to understand why I have to take classes that do not seem important to me. As a Public Health major I do not enjoy taking a computer science class or an art class, but as I discussed all of these things are equally important to God. This means that the more I understand there different areas the more I understand what is important to God. Having this knowledge allows me to have better relationships and understanding with those around me and a better relationship and understanding with God. Putting these ideas into practice has allowed me to understand God more which has strengthened my relationship with Him immensely and has allowed me to find shalom in my…

The two ethnographies that will be compared are Wisdom Sits in Places by Keith H. Basso and Language, Discourse and Power in African American Culture. Both contain eye-opening content of varying perspectives and information regarding communities that are right in front of our noses, and are successful at providing insight and conveying meaningful messages that have the capacity to change the manner in which readers see their own respective societies. There were several similarities that can be found when comparing some of the basic aspects of the two ethnographers and their studies. Both conducted their research in the United States; however, Basso remained in Cibecue, Arizona, throughout his period of research from 1979 to the mid 1980s,…

The stories of Jesus are represented through the four New Testament Gospels: Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John. Each Gospel emphasizes on particular principles that represent Jesus differently. Jesus is seen as the suffering Messiah in all four Gospels, but each Evangelist puts in his own intake, hence expanding on the original Markan portrait of Jesus. The writers of the Gospels give their own theological assertions, and understandings, which in effect creates a new portrait of Jesus for each Gospel. The Gospel portraits vary and represent a different and evolving view of Jesus’, stories, and traditions over time.…

In many classrooms across America today, race and ethnicity are very much on the table. Teachers dream of seeing their students discuss difference in a constructive way. Some educators actively encourage their classes to get outside their comfort zones and confront the country’s racial history, but I ask myself after reading McIntosh’s Interactive Phases of Curricular and Personal Re-Vision Model, how much was race and ethnicity practice in the classroom long ago when I was in elementary. I can remember when I was in 10th grade my history teacher showed the movie of “Roots” for a project in the month of February. Of course, if you have ever seen the movie “Roots”, it is a very long movie broken into 4 parts.…

How incredible to think that this temptation is so great that the Lord will send down a flying angel to communicate this message to the people on earth. This speaks to the Lord’s awesome grace and love towards all humanity. He does not long for the death of anyone’s soul, but that they should repent and believe (Ezek. 33:11). Death of the soul is not annihilation, but everlasting torment. Humanity’s mythic stories of good and evil draw upon this real battle that culminates in real time-and-space.…

Through this process each person develops different attitudes and values that guides choices, relationships, and understanding. Another important developmental stage is sexuality, this is a lifelong process. Infants, children, teens, and adults are sexual being.…
