We will use a case-control study. In fact, diabetes is a chronic disease with a long latent period between the exposure and the disease. In such situations, a case-control study is more suitable as research design (Mann, 2003). Considering 훼-error of 0.05, an effect size of 2, a power 훽 of 90% and 3 controls per case, the sample size is estimated at 488: 122 cases and 366 controls (Glaziou, 2005).
1-Qualitative component
In the qualitative component, we will study in-depth the Senegalese population behavior with regard to physical activity and diet. Thus, the qualitative approach will offset the weakness of the quantitative approach. Indeed, the latter tries merely to determine if there is a relationship between the relationship between Type 2 diabetes) and physical activity/grain-based diet. The sample size will be small as usual in a qualitative study (20 participants maximum). We will provide more details on the sample size and the methodology in the next papers. That is to say, we will work throughout the Session Long Project on the same research
