There have been several myths about Global Population. Some believe rapid population growth causes a countries economy to become poor; others believe population decline causes economy’s to become poor. Theories state that although China’s One-Child Policy remains ethnically wrong, it has boosted their economy. (Eberstadt) However, the coinciding of the two does not link them together. Along with the One-Child Policy, China also enacted several pro market reforms around the same time, any of which could have helped the economy thrive. Although the ultimate reasoning is unknown, population growth affects other aspects as well. It is feared that as population grows, so does inequality in society, and this inequality causes chaos in the sense that the rich are looked upon as wasteful and selfish because their lifestyle allows them to throw away food they don’t wish to eat, and gives them the income to live in luxurious mansions; while others starve daily and struggle to have a blanket to keep warm, let alone a home. (Arsenault) If this wealth would be instead redistributed to benefit all, the result would be a greatly improved situation.
