Learning something new is always a scary experience. One of the scariest and hardest things I’ve ever had to do was learn how to ride a bike. Ive always avoided learning to ride a bike because I had always been so scared of falling and hurting myself. One day I worked up the courage to finally learn how to ride a bike because I decided that it was an important skill that I should learn. What I didn’t realize was that learning to ride a bike would also teach me a very valuable lesson.

New situations always make me a bit nervous and learning to ride a bike was no exception. I remember this moment like it was yesterday. It was my fifth birthday and my parents got me a bright red bike that looked like a Ferrari. I was so excited, this was my first

My Dad told me after lunch he would teach me how to ride it. I was ecstatic, right after I finished my grilled cheese with bacon and my cold glass of milk I jumped out of my seat and ran to the closet where I kept my equipment. I put my kneepads, elbow pads, shoes and my helmet on and walked outside. It was a warm sunny day, not a single cloud in the sky, I knew today was the perfect day to learn how to ride my brand new bike. Before I closed the door my mom yelled “ don’t hurt yourself”. And then it hit me, I stood timidly on my front deck while my dad went to retrieve my bike from the garage. I remember feeling sick to my stomach about the thought of falling off my bike and hurting myself. Something I wasn’t thinking about earlier that day while eating my grilled cheese. My dad got my bike from the garage and I knew it was time, I didn’t realize until I grabbed the handle bars that I was sweating like a pig. My dad told me to sit on the seat and put my feet on the pedals while he held the bike in place. At that point I was so scared that I cried out “I can’t do this”. And then I heard a voice yell out “Hey Duncan” I looked across my street where the voice came from and saw my neighbour and …show more content…
My dad spent hours teaching me how to ride, he held onto the back of the seat the whole time while I got a feel for it. By the time dinner came I got the hang of it, I could pedal and steer with my dad holding onto the seat. The next step was him letting go. After supper my dad took me to an open road with no cars. I got onto the bike and started to pedal. “Am I getting the hang of it?” I asked. He did not answer, I didn’t think anything of it until I looked back to see my dad. Except he wasn’t where I expected him to be he was sixty yards away from where I was. Suddenly I got very frightened, this was my first time biking without someone holding onto the back of the seat making sure I wouldn’t fall. I then realized that I was doing it, I was riding my bike all by myself. “ Im doing it” I exclaimed, I looked back at my dad and saw the biggest smile on his face. I knew I had made him proud. It was at that moment that I had overcome my fear of falling off my bike and learned how to ride it without my training wheels. A few days ago I went on a bike ride with my dad and it had brought all the memories back. When I look back at my childhood one of the most memorable experiences would be learning to ride a bike. Learning to ride a bike was an important part of my life and I will never forget it, it taught me how will-power and perseverance help overcome challenges throughout life. And to this day I think back to what I

My family has always been a sports family. Ever since I can remember the entirety of my life outside of school has revolved around sports. For my dad it was soccer, a sport which I played and enjoyed but unlike my parents, when they were younger, I had a burning desire to play hockey. Hours of running wildly around my house dressed in goalie equipment, finally convinced my parents to sign their 5 year old up for timbits hockey. I enjoyed playing the game for many years to follow, and still do to this day, but there came a point where I was not getting what I wanted out of playing hockey competitively.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…
