In order to analysis the argument, the first term need to be defined is the principle of sufficient reason (PSR). PSR states that for every given fact X, there must be explanation why X is the case. The other thing we need to know before the argument is necessary being and contingent being. All beings exist in the world can be divided into two types, necessary being and contingent being. A being is defined as contingent being if the existence of it is depends on things beyond itself. A necessary being is “being such that it exists can’t be not-exist” (Reichenbach, 2013). In other words, the non-existence of a necessary is impossible. In the argument on the origin of life, let’s name the origin of all living organism F and F exists. From PSR, we know that the existence of F has to have an explanation. Also, as an existing being, F is either a necessary being or a …show more content…
However, Naturalists successfully shows that amino acid, which is essential for living organisms can be produced by chemicals on early earth through experiment. In
1929, Haldane raised a hypothesis that organic compound can be produced in the sea under the ultraviolet light. Later in 1953, Miller’s proved Haldane’s hypothesis by successfully produced amino acid in his experiment. In Haldane’s hypothesis, he states that on the early earth, there’re little or no oxygen and plenty of ammonia, nitrogen and carbon dioxides. At the same time, the ocean is a warm, dilute broth hence works as the “laboratory” for the reaction to occur. Under the UV light, the mixture of ammonia, carbon dioxide and water react with each other and “a vast variety of organic substances are made, including sugars and apparently some of the materials from which proteins are build up”(Haldane, 1929). When the first living cell is synthetized, it will reproduce and create more cells. This hypothesis describe the procedure for chemicals on early earth to synthetize living cell hence challenge assumption made by theists that live must be reproduced by other living
