Affective predictor variables: Attitude/motivation and self-efficacy. Empirical studies in the extant literature have indicated a strong correlation between second language anxiety and two affective factors: attitude/motivation toward learning the target language and self-efficacy (Cubukcu, 2008; Liu, 2012; Mills, Pajares, & Herron, 2006; Shams, 2008;). To examine how students’ target language learning attitude and motivation orientation predict their level of language anxiety in the classroom, this study adapted Gardner’s (1985b) “Attitude/ Motivation Test Battery” (AMTB) as a measuring instrument. Gardner’s AMTB was developed in three parts: 1) Likert-scale questions measuring English-speaking students learning French as a second language …show more content…
Shams (2008) used a modified version of AMTB in his study, examining students’ attitudes, motivations and classroom anxiety towards English language learning in Pakistan. Shams (2008) reported an overall high internal consistency at the Cronbach’s Alpha level of .85, p < .05, with moderate reliability coefficient of the following sub-scales: attitudes towards English language (r = .58, p < .05), attitudes towards English language learning (r = .77, p < .05), classroom anxiety (r = .84, p < .05), intrinsic motivation (r = .76, p < .05), and extrinsic motivation (r = .60, p < …show more content…
NGSE was an eight-item psychometric instrument, developed by Chen, Gully, and Eden (2001), to assess students’ beliefs regarding their learning capacity, competence, and goal orientation. Chen et al. In addition, in a principle component factor analysis, Chen et al. (2001) reported that the NGSE

In an increasingly intercultural world, the monolingual American norm is no longer an adequate option for American students. The research studies have continued to show the myriad of benefits of becoming bilingual at a tender age. In this paper, I wish to draw attention to the current, growing trend of dual language Immersion programs. Early childhood is a critical period for a child’s linguistic and cognitive development. Despite the well-documented benefits of multilingualism, the current educational practices in the United States reflects the deeply held belief that English should be the sole language of instruction.…

English language learners describe any student whose primary language is not English. The first thing teachers should do to help these students learn English is to never have a negative opinion on their heritage language. Encourage the students to continue their first language while learning English or any other language, this will prevent subtractive bilingualism. Though English is typically easier to understand the younger it is taught to individuals it is not impossible later on (Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry. 177). Research also suggests that intense learning in students first language promotes learning in their second language (Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry. 177).…

A few educators have expressed worry over the measure of uneasiness present in dialect classes others considered the levels of dialect nervous among college understudies to alert and assess that up to one portion of all language students encounter weakening levels of dialect tension. The purpose of the current study is to examine how standardized language assessment affects Chinese young learners’ motivation for second language learning. Adopting the L2 Motivational Self System as the theoretical framework, this survey-based research uses two sets of questionnaires among 6th-grade test takers of MSEET in a Chinese urban city. This study uses a pre-test questionnaire to elicit 6th-grade young learners’ self-perceptions about how their L2 motivation has been influenced by their Middle School Entrance English Test during the test preparation stage.
