Importance Of Career And Life Planning

Although I am only a college sophomore, Career and Life Planning will impact my life forever in many ways. Career and Life Planning had to be the best class I have taken since the beginning of college. When my advisor first showed me this class I did not think it would be of any use to me, but I talked to my friends who are older then me and they convinced me to take this class over any other. At first I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but this class pointed me in the direction of Marketing. My sister who is a lot older then me majored and went into the direction of Communications. I thought that I would follow my sisters foot steps and become interested in Communications but Career and Life Planning made me realize I was wrong. …show more content…
Doing this assessment in Career and Life Planning showed me why Marketing is really an amazing fit for myself. This assessment mainly showed me what to study, showed my strengths and weaknesses, and showed me what steps to take in order to become successful. My personal responses on the MBTI assessment showed that my report type is ESTJ. ESTJ is Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. All these four traits helped me realize why I belong in a Marketing occupation. Getting ESTJ as my assessment report makes me feel much more comfortable in the environment that I plan on working in the future. “Career development almost always involves coping with new demands that do not come naturally to you and often requires working and communicating with people with different preferences” (A.L. Hammer, MBTI Career Report, personal communication, October 5, 2016). My ESTJ report comes with many personal strengths as showed in the report. ESTJ assessment reports involve making tough decisions when needed, always being ready to take charge, and being very organized. All throughout my life I have been very good at all of the strengths from ESTJ. In the ranking of Job Families for ESTJ, “Business”, which involves marketing is one of the top choices. Not only the class itself made me realize why I am so interested in Marketing, but the MBTI report …show more content…
Even though I have been interviewed for a serious internship before, If I took this class last semester my internship interview last summer would have been significantly better. Sitting down with someone 1 on 1 in front of a whole class can be very stressful for students. But, since I got to do it with one of my close friends I was very relaxed. My partner asked me questions related to the Pharmaceutical Sales internship I am going for this summer. It was really great to not only have feedback from my partner, but to also have feedback from my professor. My professor made me feel much more confident for future interviews that I will go too. He told me he loved my descriptive answers to all of my partner’s questions. I knew how to correctly respond not only because my partner and I met up before to practice, but because I have experience with Marketing interviews. Career and Life Planning’s Mock Interview benefited me in so many ways. Everyone either gets nervous or gets anxiety when doing an interview, but practicing with a mock interview can boost your confidence, prepare you for real life questions, and can provide you with tremendously helpful feedback without feeling

Garret Hunter, INFJ type, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator reflection The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment provided, in my opinion, valuable and interesting information as to what my character can be seen as. Reading through the generated report offered deep insight into some of my characteristics; the test stated that I would find a desirable career where I would have opportunities to express my preferences, be recognized for using national gifts and strengths, and where I would face tasks and problems that are interesting to me. Although these results weren’t shocking, I also found it interesting that it seemed to point me in a direction where I can’t imagine myself being. Before the test I knew that I appreciate being rewarded for my natural…

Advice Dated as College Itself Let’s retire the exhausted mantra, “You need to go to college to be successful.” For many incoming freshman, four years of meticulous studying in high school have fallen short in helping to pick a major. While the world opens its arms to hard working high school graduates, many students have given little thought to a career path, while some are simply burnt out by school. Liz Freedman is the author of “The Developmental Disconnect in Choosing a Major”, an online article published on Penn State’s academic advisory journal “The Mentor.” In her article, Freedman cites a number of statistics such as the 20%-50% of students entering college as “undecided”, and the 75% of students who change their major at least once.…

To elaborate further on social cognitive career theory (SCCT), Hackett, Lent and Brown (2000) discussed strategies for which SCCT counselors should navigate through their clients’ career obstacles. First, Hackett et al. (2000) stated that SCCT focuses on the interaction of individual aspects such as self-efficacy, result outcomes, and future goals, and how those interactions contribute to career development (Hackett, Lent, & Brown, 2000). To begin their evaluation, the authors analyzed environmental factors from a SCCT perspective (Hackett et al., 2000). When examining career development through a SCCT lens, there are two major factors that influence it, (i.e., objective and observed environmental factors; Hackett et al., 2000).…

To tell about a life experience that will impact my education and drive me through my educational journey could be a simple statement of how I would want to better myself, be a stronger provider for my family or maybe even so I could impact lives through a new field of work. If I were to tell you these things, I would be lying. The driving force for this decision is not my own. Since I was a young girl I have always done as I was told from my parents, get a job, graduate High School, go to college, grow up and get married and have children. I have done this with one exception; I never graduated.…
