The Importance Of Demeter

Demeter, known as the Greek goddess of corn, wheat, and harvest. Demeter guaranteed the fertility of the Earth and maintained the farming and vegetation (Cartwright 1). Her energy flew throughout the Earth, and protected all of nature. Demeter was known as the “mother nature” of the Greek goddesses. Through Demeter’s power with nature, she can be credited for all of creation, and the maintaining of all earthly vegetation. She also help set rules of mankind. Her name means “Grain mother”(“Demeter” 3). Demeter’s parents are Cronus and Rhea and she has five siblings. Her siblings are Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, and Hestia. She participates in the final battle, helping defeat the giants and save the whole world. Although she didn’t have an intricate role in the series, it shows how she is mentioned in modern society. She was sometimes shown riding in a chariot haggered by horses or even sometimes dragons (“Demeter”). Other times you could see her alongside her daughter Persephone on a throne or otherwise alone. Many greeks worshipped them with all their heart. She was adored in many places like Crete, Delos, Argolis, and Attica (“Demeter is known for” 5). Many other gods and goddess were jealous of the way Demeter was so worshipped and adored by so many people in so many different places. Many people didn’t believe in a religion some just believe in gods or goddess. In greece they made it a personal choice to pick in whom to follow and believe in. Some people would use Demeter in order for her to help them with their crops or animals. She was a kind-hearted person who always believed the best for others. Going back to Zeus who betrayed a lot of people he was a bad person at lying. Demeter knew that Zeus cheated on her with many other different women. In him doing this she thought it would be okay to do the same to him. This was different though when Iashion eyes and her eyes met they knew they were perfect for each other.
