The Pros And Cons Of Juveniles

A Juvenile is still at the stages of being influenced and is still developing. When they are placed in a adult prison, then they develop inside as criminals. There is no reason why a juvenile has to continue developing into a criminal if there is a opportunity to teach them better. The court has to consider the mindset of a juvenile when sentencing them because overall they do not have a full development of the world. In an article entitled, “Rocori teen found guilty of murder; Mental-illness phase of trial begins for boy who killed 2 at school" published by Star Tribune, discuses a case were a teen killed with the intentions of only injuring and demonstrates signs of mental illness. There is no reason why a youth should be charged as an adult for certain crimes they commit because overall they are still developing and have the highest opportunity to change into good people. Society cannot punish a youth because of a crime they commit due to the sort of lifestyle they grew up in. It is not fair to treat a youth like a kid throughout their lives, but when a serious crime is committed treat them like an adult. An adult has full acknowledgement of their actions and have already accepted their consequences when committing a crime, whereas a juvenile has no acknowledgement because they are use to what they have been taught their entire life. Overall they big picture is that juveniles should not be tried as adults because they are not considered adults and it is the court systems fault for making them believe that they are only adults when a serious crime is committed. It is best if juveniles are kept under the Juvenile Justice Department to learn to be better people regardless of their crime rather then to leave it to the adult court to decide their
