Some players will fix mistakes immediately when a coach tells them, but others may only act when a teammate helps them. In order for a coach to successfully critique a player, they must invest in their team and familiarize themselves with each player and how they react to specific situations. Coaches are encouraged to practice using their words carefully so that they will know how to effectively communicate with their team. If a coach has a conflict with a player, the best way to handle the situation is to pull them aside and confront them on their wrongdoing. Another way to handle this type of situation, is to have meetings with the players. This coaching technique may help the coach learn about his/her players. If the player needs work within the sport, a coach should be honest instead of lying to the player and telling him/her that they will play. Being honest with players not only pushes them to work harder, but also builds a respectful relationship between a coach and a player. A coach should also practice respecting their players by choosing their word choice carefully and communicating with them efficiently. When a coach yells at a player repeatedly, the player may lose respect to the coach. Learning about each player through bonding exercises and meetings can benefit the coach when he/she tries to critique the player.
