For my final project, I will compare two pieces of art and show the comparisons and differences that they have in the Greek ancient period and the modern period of the same theme “the representation of the Trojan war”. The visual work art is a bilingual art because it was made with the participation of two artists, Andokides (Red figure) and the Lysippides (Black figure) and it is titled “Achilles and Ajax Playing a Dice a Game”. It was painted in 525–520 B.C in Greece and it represents the ancient Greece. The literary artwork I will consider is The Iliad, an epic poem by the ancient Greek poet Homer in 750 BCE. The ceramic and the poem were both created by ancient Greek artists, even though two hundred and thirty years apart. They also illustrate the importance of the roles that these two soldiers play (according to the Iliad, Ajax and Achilles were their best Greek soldiers and the ceramic also illustrates the importance of these two characters). Achilles was the representation of the winner and Ajax the loser, which is also similar of what the Iliad said, because between the two of them, Achilles was the best soldier. The armor, helmets, tunics, shields and the weapons they had also show the similarities between the ceramic and the poem, Ajax and Achilles’ personalities and their passion for a battle and/or competition also shows how similar both pieces of art are, they both represent the intensity of a battle and to find out who would be victorious. The differences between the amphora “ Achilles and Ajax Playing a Dice a Game” and The Iliad are that they are both different pieces of art, one is a poem and the other one is a ceramic, they were both made with different materials, the visual art can give you a lot of interpretations and you can have a lot of assumptions of what you see, while …show more content…

It definitely has the same concept of two nations that are close to each other, with similar cultures and with the same purpose which is to win the war and gain victory to bring back to their country, the intensity, the deaths, the anger for not obtaining what they want is what strives them to keep fighting until the end, the Iliad has influences in our modern period and it shows it in this war, this was as same as the Trojans and Greeks has leaders of these countries(Mahmoud Abbas and Reuven Rivlin or for the Iliad Agamemnon and Priam) and it could have influenced other wars in our modern period on how to prepare themselves, knowing that there has to be a loser and a winner and they both need to get prepared and use their best armor, weapons and soldiers, and also how both wars have innocent people dying. The Iliad also has a modern influence such as the release of the movie Troy starred by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom in 2004. The film “Troy” has a very wide

In the epic poem, the Iliad written by Homer, several characters taking part in the warfare between the Achaeans and the Trojans are portrayed as embodying the heroic code of courage, physical strength, leadership, arete of value of honour, and the acceptance of fate. The definition, importance, and paths to achieve honor have all changed across history. From the bloodthirsty, conflict-fueled honor of the Romans to the modern day, Western concept of a solid moral platform from which one acts, honor proves itself diverse in form and difficult to gain. For the Ancient Greeks, especially in battle, honor was firmly affixed to respect and glory; this concept is easily relayed through Homer’s The Iliad. Instead of purely stating the events of the Trojan War, Homer uses its characters as platforms from which he can add his own perspectives regarding the true value of honor.…
