Hamlet demonstrates his admirable traits by the way he deals with his complicated bond with his mother, his tempestuous relationship with his step-father and his loyal friendship with Horatio.
Hamlets series of grievances begin on his return home due to the devastating news of his father, King Hamlets death. Hamlet was in a great deal of pain as if many would, when one looses a loved one. Not only did his uncle(his father 's brother) Claudius, gain power he also remarried Hamlet 's mother due to her husband 's death. Horatio is portrayed as a very smart and loyal friend who Hamlet looks up to and admires. When Horatio is first seen in Shakespeare 's 'Hamlet, ' he is called upon by the castle guards to address the ghost that they have encountered. Unlike Hamlet, Horatio is not afraid of the ghost, and he bravely confronts him. He is calm, resolute, and rational as he demands that the ghost to tell him whether it has come to confess some ill deed or to predict the future fate of Denmark. This is shown as he states, " If thou art privy to thy country 's fate...O, speak! Or if thou hast up hoarded in thy life. Extorted treasure in the womb of earth...Speak of it, stay and speak! "(I.i.133-9). Not only is Horatio a brave individual who speaks his mind with the ghost, he does the same with Hamlet as well. One example of this is when Hamlet decides to follow the ghost in hopes of learning the reason for its appearance. Horatio disagrees and clearly states it 's a risky choice. Horatio is an honest and loyal friend and he 's genuinely worried that Hamlet might be tempted into madness. Horatios noble traits and his willingness to support and guide Hamlet through the deep sorrow he is experiencing, emphasizes his willingness to become as admirable as his good friend .
