Children a great thing and we as early childhood teacher we need to know that. I have learned so many things about this program and how to better myself in my work. She lives in George, Iowa and babysat me for about 5 years. I went there till I was about 11 years old, I could have stayed at home by myself but I loved going there and playing with the kids. She made it fun and I never wanted to leave at the end of the day. I hope someday if I open up my own daycare business that I can make it fun for the children and their families. I loved how she had the daycare set up and yet has her own area for her and her family. She was a great babysitter for me and my sister’s still to this day she is a great family friend of ours. She taught me how to change a baby’s diaper, feed babies, and give them nap time when they need too at a young age. I’m glad I went to her daycare growing up, I feel that this is why I decided that I wanted to be an early childhood

Early childhood educators and professionals carry out many functions to meet the objectives toward their mission and for meeting the goals of helping children and their families can be accomplished. In doing so, they often are faced with ethical dilemmas. Codes of ethics, therefore, helps to set the standards of practice expected of professional people, and in consequence they are sometimes known as Codes of Practice. Professionalizing early childhood requires that teachers be critical practitioners and ethical professionals; thus, “taking control of the professionalization agenda therefore requires practitioners to demonstrate a critical understanding of their practice'' (Taggart, 2011, p. 85).…

The DEC and NAEYC codes of ethics exposed some important reminders of why I truly want to be part of a profession that place important values when considering all children, all families investing in the early childhood (EC) field and individuals willing working within this field to increase the quality care that govern our profession. I have worked within this field in various capacities that made me question the individuals I worked for and how I viewed and valued the (EC) profession. The DEC codes in particular discuss the enhancement of children’s and families quality of life when investing in child care development. Under this code #2 we should be able to identify professionals that recognize the responsibility to improve the developmental…

Throughout the Capstone Project, I have learned that college is expensive and being an Early Childhood Educator might be something I really want to be. It would be better for me to go to a two-year technical school, and then transfer to a four-year college. This process would allow me to save money so that I will not be paying student loans for many years. I have learned what it takes to become a teacher, and I am highly interested. The characteristics a teacher must have are patience, self-control, creativity, and leadership skills.…

Early years practitioners play a vital role in the emotion and behavior that occurs within children. Practitioners usually must set up an environment that promotes positive and healthy attitudes towards another and towards oneself. This allows for intervention and prevention of a child getting a behavioral and emotional disorder from a young age. According to the book Teaching and Working with Children Who Have Emotional and Behavioral Challenges, a practitioner must create positive prevention strategies such as ‘expression of the value of all members of the school community, school environments marked by a high academic expectation, positive behavioral expectations, student-centered instruction, positive and proactive approach towards school…

While creating my own code of ethics for an out of school care facility I currently work at I was impressed to see what other programs and associations were doing in their own codes. Some codes I looked at were the Ethics of child and youth care professionals, The early childhood educators of BC, and The child and youth care association of BC code of ethics. These gave me ideas to use in my own code as well as ideas of what I did not want to see in my code which made deciding what was best for my facility easier. When reading these codes, I was also often reminded of different types of ethics and where they would fit in not only for the codes I was reading on my own. This allowed for me to understand my values and beliefs of what a code should…

Early years of childhood have widely been recognised as the most important years of learning and development. “Research have shown the importance of these years to learn and acquire new skills” (DEECD, 2010), which have assigned a great responsibility to the educators working with the young children. As an early childhood educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide the high quality learning environment for the young children to learn, acquire and develop social, emotional, academic and technological skills. The following paper contains my philosophy statement, which includes my values and professional knowledge in relation to children, teaching and learning in early childhood education.
