Do we still believe in the importance of civilization? What kind of questions are these? Of course we do, there may be some people out there who really don’t feel that table manners are that important anymore but that is because their parents taught it to them that way and they are passing it on. But most people do still believe in the importance of civilization. Who would want to become uncivilized again? Table manners or the lack there of show what type of person you are. If you are “civilized” or not. Speech manners is similar in the sense if you don’t have speech manners no one will understand what you are saying really and then they will think badly of you and not want to talk to you anymore. So manners in any sense is to guide the way people think about you and in this day and age that is something really important to people. People depend on what others think even if they think that they don’t. We have celebrities and the president and so many role models that we look up to. If they don’t have good manners or a good name they lose fans and sometimes stop being famous. Manners and being civilized is what separates us from animals. I think that scares people to think that we could easily backtrack into uncivilized times and so that makes them believe in the concept of manners and civilization. There are also people who think since the times change, then the school should as well. I think that in The allegory of the Cave it also shows that we as a society can think differently and have different ideas. When I first started reading it, I was very confused, but as I continued it started to call come together and make sense. The people in the cave all had the same ideas, they were trying to guess what the shadows were and see who was the best at it. It seemed that there were no changes other than the shadows, it was always dark and they couldn’t move. Eventually someone was released and was taken out of the cave where there seemed to be a little bit more of an advanced civilization but after a while the person went back into the cave tried to talk to the others about the outside land, but they just laughed at him and didn’t care or believe the outside land was better than where they were at that point. This goes along with what I was saying. That if people don’t have different ideas they will believe that they should stay where they are and there is no need for change. This is why we need to have a little bit of the same ideas as well as a little bit of different
