Despite working in an environment dominated by white men, Kathryn Johnson still had the courage to stand up for what she knew was the right thing to do. Although being insulted on in front of her coworkers, Kathryn maintained composure and let everyone know that the challenges she faced as simple as they were not the right things to be challenged by. “There is no bathroom for me here… I have to walk to Timbuktu’s just to relieve myself” (Kathryn Johnson). Kathryn Johnson worked in an oppressive environment where she was not only oppressed because of her gender but because of her race. She demonstrates her tenacity saying, “so excuse me if I have to go to the bathroom a few times a day” (Kathryn Johnson). Kathryn raised attention to the struggles she had to face as an oppressed woman that many were shocked to hear as they never had to struggle in the way she did. Despite knowing that their morals went against those against them, Nora, Kathryn and Grant all demonstrated their courage going against the morals and ethics of those with oppressive views around
