Even though it is banned for children to work in mining, there are many cases of children working in mines. Along with the no food, low wages, and terrible working conditions, there have been cases of children being sexualy assulted in the work place. Most of these involve young girls and their male bosses but that’s not the case all the time. Poverty is one of the biggest leaders of child labour. With the mom and dad just working in the family, most of the time it doesn’t bring enough money for the family, so they make their children go to work. Sometimes it’s even too hard for the women to find good jobs. Men are more than twice as likely than women to have a salaried job and women only earn 62 percent of men’s salary for equal work. If the family is full of women they won’t have as much money as a family with more boys. To help the people in need, India has spent money on programs that were suppose to distribute food and buy health insurance for the families that can’t afford them, but these programs have failed to eradicate poverty because of a widespread of corruption and faulty government. Public schooling free but only goes till the eighth grade. Private school is better schooling but very expensive for the people living in India. It costs people only two dollars a month for their child to go to school but for people living in here that’s a lot of money to give up, especially if they don 't have that money. Millions of underprivileged children won 't step foot in a school. Teachers are one of the highest paying jobs in India, because of that people who are not educated enough to be teachers apply for the job and sometimes end up getting the job. If these uneducated people get the job the children in the classroom won 't learn what they need to learn. This especially happens in the private schools because no one pays attention to them. On the other hand the private schools are run by the government so they have control over what they teach but hardly pay attention to it. Since the government doesn’t pay attention to what the children are learning, 60 percent of children can’t read after going to school for three years. Only one-third of India’s 1.2 billion population can read. Researchers have concluded that it could take approximately 66 years for impoverished children to have universal literacy. India is the fourth out of ten countries with the highest number of out-of-school children in the primary level. Among these is mainly girls.
