The Importance of a CNA
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) positions are not jobs that comes to mind when considering the medical field; however, it is an important step in becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). CNAs are basically caregivers to people who otherwise can 't do things on their own or need to be taken care of, medically and physically. the importance of a CNA and the importance of becoming a CNA before attending a nursing program is a critical piece of the healthcare field. CNAs have a very hands-on important job that only a certain type of person can do.

A registered nurse that has graduated from a nursing program, on the other hand, makes an average gross annual salary of $65,470 Preparing to attend nursing school takes a lot of time and diligence. It is important a CNA learns as much as possible about bloodborne pathogens, diseases, and treatments as possible to prepare for nursing school (NurseJournal.org). Job shadowing is one way to see first hand what the job entails. As a mentor an RN can provide experienced advice about care plans, how to study for exams and clinicals, and give advice about succeeding on the job and in nursing school (How to Become Your Dream …show more content…
The volunteer nursing aid service was established through the American Red Cross (Wozniak). This Program was reinstated in WW2 when over 12,000 women volunteered their services in military hospitals.(A history of nurse aid) In modern day schooling, most colleges or universities have a nursing program or school. The first school of nursing in the U.S is called the the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing, established in 1873, in New York City. It was the first nursing school in the United States to be founded on the principles of nursing and was established by Florence Nightingale. The school was up and operating until it’s closure in 1969 (Board of Managers). There is nothing said as to why it closed however it did reopen in 1920.( a history of nurse aid) In 1893, Ellen Dougherty (the world 's first RN) began working as a matron of Palmerston North Hospital. In 1897, a third year was added to nursing training by the University of Maryland, Faculty of Physics. The U.S took a different path when it came to nursing in Europe. Nursing staffs mainly consisted of nuns and had a stronghold of Catholicism within the medical field. However, in the United States, nursing had no religious ties. Nursing officially began in the 1700’s with women volunteering to help heal men wounded in battle and has evolved into what it is today
