“A woman in a man’s world is considered progressive but a man in woman’s world is pathetic”, this was the statement given by Amrit Lal Parik. The movie, thus revolve around the sentence, as we see, Jayraj Parik, who liked to dance was slowly and gradually forced to stop dancing either say because of circumstances or by the conditions of his father or the selfishness of his wife. The movie thus portrays multiple themes keeping the viewers engrossed in it of what happens and how? Mahesh Dattani-the playwright-has successfully portrayed the prevailing mind-set of the people of that time-time after independence-alongside with many other important aspects like male domination, sacrifice, generation gap, enforcement of dreams, dynamic faces of politicians and conflict between personal and professional lives.

Jayraj blames her for the deed all time in the play, though are playwright defends Ratna by saying, “How come it is only a woman’s responsibility to play the nurturer? It takes two to breed remember?” Still we see that she has a guilty mind infected by the death of her son due to which she left her dance even and ends up forcing her dreams on her daughter and getting jealous of her success.

Thus we see, that Mahesh Dattani, through the play ”Dance Like a Man” has depicted multiple themes which influence the lives of people daily and brings out the similarity betwixt Amrit Lal Parik and Ratna i.e. enforcement of dreams on their child, their high expectation and also unsatisfied results. Thus, bringing into light to the viewers that it’s not just the generation gap that passes from time but also the way of thinking of our elders is what we inculcate in
