“I wish I was rich”
These wishes were unthinkable. The lights starting flickering. I feel like this happened multiple times by now. Does this happen every time someone makes a wish?

Hours and hours passed by, but they never came back.

Everything was frozen I was trapped in this nightmare. The last thing i wished for was to rewind everything. “I wanna rewind everything to the day my dad found you, I want my dad to dumpster dive I wanna be normal”

It was a warm summer day, and I was out camping with my family for the weekend at the Wild Goose Ranch, a trailer park a couple hours away from the Bartonville area. I was seven at the time. During my sophomore year, I heard about elections for the president of National Math Honor Society, or NMHS. I was excited as I saw this as the opportunity I had to instill a love of math for my fellow high school peers. Since I had been at the top of my math classes during high school, I anticipated an easy triumph for me, so I imprudently stood idle while my opponents campaigned. Unfortunately, after the voting by my fellow students, I learned I had lost to a junior. I shrank down in my seat and tears formed in my eye, showing my humiliation.…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

These past three years have been the longest and the shortest of my life. The seemingly endless homework, long term assignments, and Wednesdays that felt more like Mondays made it seem like middle school would never end. Each individual day felt it took forever, but somehow, I feel like three years have been compressed into three weeks. I remember the first thing anyone said to me at Bigelow. “Welcome to Mr. Spiegels homebase, where people jump out from behind windows and hide under recycling bins”.…

However, after immigrating from Mexico to the United States to live with my father, the family dynamic changed drastically. It went from an open communication environment where my siblings and I could express freely, to living in a strict household where our feelings were not validated. My father expressed his power by establishing rules that were not imposed upon us prior to living with him. Even though my mother did not agree with the strict rules he established, he went ahead and did it anyway. For example, my sister and I were not allowed to hang out with friends of the opposite sex, when before my mother allowed that.…
