Usually the infection in human is asymptomatic or courses with small amounts of symptoms. The natural history of this disease that can affect not only women but also men is not yet completely understood. When the symptoms are present, they are usually mild, causing secretion from the penis in an infected man or vaginal discharge in women. The chlamydia infection can be transmitted during vaginal, anal or oral or intercourses. As well it will be spread from mother to the newborn through vaginal delivery. Teenager girls and young women who are sexually active are in an increased risk of infection because the cervix (the entrance to the uterus) has not been fully formed and is more susceptible to infections.
