One of the most misunderstood and important key in becoming a strong individual and/or leader to a company is the knowledge of emotional intelligence. A person should be able to recognize the difference in not only other’s emotions but also their own throughout their personal and business life. Emotional intelligence handles the thoughts, feelings, and actions towards a person’s emotions in concern situations. In this paper, there will be three main points about emotional intelligence that will be discussed, which will be self-awareness, self-management, and empathy. This will help you as the reader learn more about how to apply these key points in your daily life and at work.

Whether it is personal or business related, it is important to know how to handle different scenarios with different people no matter their age, gender, education, ect (McGraw Hill Companies, Inc., 2008). Self-awareness skills will helps a person recognize and identity their own feelings. Self-management skills will helps a person manage control over their feelings with themselves and others. Empathy will help a person understand another person emotion, and help manage a good composure of their own feelings during a situation that they may have with someone in at their current state in their personal or professional life. It is easy to misunderstand what a person is going through when it comes to emotions because we all deal with emotions in a different way and react to emotions and feelings in several different ways as well.
